  • It must surely put mums-to-be's minds at rest to have a quick look around where they'll be having their babies - seems daft they don't do the tours everywhere. I work at the hospital I'll be having ours at though I think I'd have to sneak in for one if I couldn't go otherwise!

Let me know what you think of hypnobirthing psycho - I start night shifts again tonight so won't be leaving the house except for work for the next week :(

    Hello all, hope everyone's well.

Feels like a long time since I've posted. Probably just as a lots been going on!

The garage conversion is finished, well at least the builders bits have. All the decoration work, new flooring and kitchen alterations are left for me to start doing today.

I've got the nursery painted and carpet back down.

OH and baby are doing well. Bump getting bigger all the time. He's kicking lots, and just the other day OH said she could now actually see the bump move when he's kicking!

I haven't seen it yet as by she time she says it's happening he always stops.

We've got the next midwife appointment a week on Friday which will be within the last couple of days of Week 24. So will be moving on to the next thread after that.

Time seems to be going quicker now
    Mortgage remaining: £42,260 of £77,000 (2.59% til 03/18 - 2.09% til 03/23)

    Savings target June 18 - £22,281.99 / £25,000

It would be interesting to hear what the taster is like, PsychoB.

I've seen the maternity ward at our hospital when visiting people but not the delivery suite. The ward is so warm I found it a bit unbearable for any length of time really, hopefully I'll feel different when I'm there myself.

Glad everything is going well for you Freddie.

The weeks are just flying by, I'm approaching 24 weeks now so I should look at moving over to the other thread soon. Baby is kicking and moving loads, I was reading the next few weeks will likely see baby move the most as he still has plenty of space. It's very reassuring, and not quite as freaky as I'd imagined. Still need to look for the travel system though...

    I hope everyone is well!
  • Beckyy and Ruby... I didn't come away from the taster session feeling like I knew any more about what hypnobirthing actually involves :(

An anxious day today at work, the new MD has called a meeting to let us know what he plans to do with the company, redundancies, office move etc. I'm worried as I'm not at 25 weeks yet so wouldn't get SMP if I lose my job. I need this day to end.

On a brighter note, we finally started clearing the little bedroom last night. We have 1.5 boxes to go in the loft, 1 box of stuff to sell/charity shop, a black sack full of rubbish and a sack full of recycling. About a third of the way there so we made a good start!

  • Hi all,

It's been a while since I last posted, not to worry, hubby and I have spent the best part of 2 weeks in the Maldives celebrating our 3rd wedding anniversary. And as it so happens, it's was our last holiday now that we have the baby on the way. Holiday was lovely and to top it off I think I started to feel the baby move as I had these funny popping sensations really low in my tummy.

Had a midwife appointment yesterday where hubby and I got to hear our child's heart beat which was really good. Also I think (touch wood) that my morning sickness is getting better (finally now that I'm 17 weeks).

Going to see my mum this weekend and we are going to star going through the stuff my sister has given us that she has finished with. It's been stored at my mums as mum had said it was bad luck having baby things in the house when trying to conceive. I hope it's not too early but we are so busy over the next few months I want to be organized and not rushing around last minute.

Freddie it's great you've got that building work out of the way. It's so hard to get anything done once the baby arrives.

Beckyy unfortunately maternity wards are unbearably warm. It's was one of the reasons I was desperate to be released with my daughter last time.

Pyschopathbabble how far along are you? If enough people are being made redundant don't they need to do a 30 day consultation and then give a notice period? If so then hopefully you'd still be there long enough to qualify for SMP. Plus there's Maternity Allowance for those that don't get SMP. Fingers crossed that your job is safe.

I'm hoping my sickness will end soon as im so fed up with it. It's my birthday this weekend and I haven't even bothered organising anything as what's the point when I'm so tired and nauseous all the time.

  • Thank you Kynthia... Looks like I'm ok for now! I also have a meeting with the HR manager Monday to put a plan in place to help me do more at work... Whether it's a course in my own time or whatever. Just relieved that is was ok today :)

Happy birthday! Hope you manage to enjoy some of the weekend :)

Surprises me how few mothers on maternity leave don't know this.........

SMP change if the worker has a pay rise?
If the worker receives a pay rise AT ANY TIME from the Qualifying Week onwards (the 15th week before the baby is due) to the END of her maternity leave, then her SMP should be recalculated to include this pay increase. The increased SMP should be backdated for the whole period of her maternity leave.

Seen a few ladies already receiving their SMP, annual pay increase while on mat leave, noted for when they return but NO request from their employer to undertake the above (from the ACAS website).
Seen it all, done it all, can't remember most of it.
  • The SMP though is the same rate regardless of your income isn't it? Undid actually get a pay rise earlier this year but sadly too early on! darn it.

Off shopping tomorrow, found a cute grey star cot set and blanket etc that I'm hoping DH will let me buy :) I'm determined for a soft grey nursery!

Sevenofnine, do you mean the initial few weeks that are 90% of full pay should have a backdated increase?
