As above. Sounds like you've done a good thing here OP and may your faith be well founded.
What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?

I don't get on with the parents but I do have an overall family loyalty. Yes I suppose it is cheeky but maybe desperation comes into it too. I don't know what else to say but after speaking to him on the phone last night I wanted to help him out.

I think you are doing a really good thing in helping your nephew. Your decision to lend this money could break the cycle of negativity in his life and help him forge out a great future. By agreeing terms with him as to when this loan will be repaid, you are showing him that you trust him and enabling him to step up and handle things really maturely. I hope he will see you right and appreciates your help.
The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.

Thank you for all of your really lovely comments.

My nephew sent me a very touching message yesterday thanking me and with good wishes for Christmas.

I don't know if its good karma but today my husband found out that he is owed a lot of overtime money £600-£700. Also I got an email from our accountant (my husband was self employed a couple of years ago) to say that we are owed tax. She hasn't worked out how much yet but she is the sort of accountant that if Carlsberg did tax refunds - if you get my drift.

Maybe I should do the lottery.

Anyway, that's the last I am going to say on the subject. Merry Christmas.

Update: His company have worked it out double of what we thought!

I agree with others on here who have said that your willingness to take a risk and put your faith in your nephew really wanting to make a new start is just brilliant.

It may well make all the difference to his life as it sounds like he has not had a very good start in life.

I am sad to see such judgmental comments about someone who has money difficulties, financial mistakes and poor money management are the reason that many people are on this site, and are trying to change that with the excellent advice and articles on here, many with great success, which is inspirational.

Just because someone has got themselves into financial difficulties does not mean that nothing can change, I admire the OP for doing the right thing, giving a lifeline, and trusting the nephew.

I would have done exactly the same in the circumstances described.

How great to see that the OP has had some good fortune back, good karma indeed!

Hope you have a great Christmas, OP, and that your nephew does well in life after your kind and generous helping hand.
Making time for me now. Out with old habits and ideas, and open to change......:j

    Definitely good karma, Tesuhoha!

You deserve it and I hope things work out for your nephew.
