  • OK, just got my satnav, and took it for a test run.

Must say, it was easier to program than I expected.

I just entered "Tesco" and it offered me a list to choose from.

A couple of things I'm not massively impressed with.

    1. No carrying case. Managed to pick up a generic one from PC World, for a fiver.

    2. The absence of a Micro SD Card.

    3. The 2.8GB  download, to update the maps.

A quick question, if I may.

Does the USB cable charge the satnav (as well as connecting it for updates), or does it only charge from the cigarette lighter lead?

    2. Are you objecting to the lack of a Micro SD CARD, or Micro SD SLOT? It should definitely have a SLOT

I dont think anyone supplies NAVs with a case and a micro SD card on budget Sat Navs. Both extra purchases

Should charge the NAV too, but i keep mine connected constantly in the car via the cigarette lighter.

Got my 52LM last friday. Well pleased with it. Bigger screen, better quality screen, more detailed and faster than my 255W. Got £35 for it on ebay so it was a £30 upgrade for me from a 5 year old one to a new one.

It does have a slot. It just didn't come with a card.

I've just discovered that. Not that I'd call £90 a budget price.

Have to say, it's easier to use than I expected.

The Nuvi is the budget range. You've bought the top end budget one though.

Theres a lot of tech in there for the money, so i guess they arent in a position to give away freebees such as cases and memory cards.

Yes the USB lead will charge the device.

All Garmin car sat navs are badged Nuvi. The 55 range is a budget one.

That's good to hear. I've now just plugged it into my tower system, to charge.

Mine seems pretty good for a "budget" model.

Apologies yes, you're right. Also the 42. The satnavs with the four digit model number are the upmarket ones.
  • It doesn't seem to want to charge, off the USB cable. :(

Fortunately, I have a Jump Starter Pack with a 12V socket, so I plugged the Cigarette Lighter lead into it, and the Satnav is now fully changed.

Your USB port may not have (enough) power to it?

I keep mine on the cigarette lighter charger cable all the time.
