Ninth Anniversary 1,000 Posts Name Dropper I've been Money Tipped!
    I don't know if I will continue :/

    I get:

    TV M (500GB TiVO)
    Free weekend calls
    50MB Fibre

    £13 a month.

I paid line rental all in one go, about £140 or something.

I get a special discount but the EE deal is really tempting as I understand (factoring in the Amazon voucher), you're paying ~£68 a year for the BB. The huge draw back is it's only up to 17Mb, which is really poor.

I'll see how much it will go up for me (I might have a no-raises clause on my contract).

Was paying £15, going up by £3.64

I don't think your going to get the line rental saver back though ?

Our services are increasing by 10% so rang to action our cancellation and there was minimal effort on their part to keep us! Lets see if they call us to offer a good deal before the 30 days are up!

How easy is it to swap over to Sky if you're on VM? Got the letter myself today - not happy, nearly £5 a month price increase!
  • I signed a contract for the Big Easy bundle on 28th November - 3 weeks later they increase the price. I don't get how a contract is a contract unless VM decided it's not. I was told the read the terms and conditions by the customer service representative when I phoned to complain! I was offed a 6 month deferral of the price increase but who expects their price to be increased less than a month into their contract?
  • Another one who got the letter today. Nearly £5 a month increase. Have done a comparison with Sky and its about £15 a month cheaper. Phoned VM and they will not drop the price. Bye bye VM
Loved our trip to the West Coast USA. Death Valley is the place to go!

Very easy! I called Virgin this morning to cancel, make sure you mention the letter! Got the date for the deactivation then went to Sky. I went via TCB and got £146 cashback and £100 pre-paid mastercard from Sky - this deal expires tonight thou! I did it online and paid the set up charge. As my Virgin is being de-activated on the 17th Jan I selected the 16th for set for the phone line and BB however TV I could only select Dec 27th. A quick call and this was cancelled and Sky are calling me to book this in on the 16th once it can be booked!

Very happy with the savings I've made of £15pm and £246 extra.

Thank you Virgin for putting my priceup so I could cancel FOC :T:rotfl: They won't be able to match what I've and saved today so Sky it is!

Oh, and a quick call to Vodafone today has resulted in a £30pm saving :money::money::money: £45pm a month better off so a very MSE day for me!!!!

  • Just called Virgin. I asked if I could downgrade from the Big Kahuna to just broadband. They said I would have to cancel the existing contract and then reapply for a broadband contract separately. Also said I would lose any of the line rental paid in advance. Not the best of experiences. Still smarting and going to do my sums before acting in anger. Whatever I decide now, I will be kicking the whole deal at the end of the initial contract anyway now and will probably end up using another broadband provider.
My dad always used to say "They only want your money". Too true!

After negotiations with retention dept. I got offered the following, but didn't agree yet, just saved to my account and got two weeks to accept/decline:

Big Bang (internet up from current 50 to 100 mbps) + 6 months Netflix + £50 credit + Sky Sports and Sky movies for 3 months and for total of £756.82 on new 18 month contract which works out at £39.27/month after their £50 credit.
Which is not bad considering that I was paying £44 + 4 pound increase for Essentials package with 50 mpbs. We only signed up 8 months ago, got cashback of £160 paid already so those 8 months cost us only £114 which works at £14.25/month. Not bad.

The guy was trying to trick me into staying but I said no, I will take out new contract in my name as current contract is in my Mrs. He said we would have on a record that is is existing customer already and I would have to wait 3 months to get new customer's deal as well as they wouldn't honour new customer's deal, would have to pay £45 installation fee and so on.
I didn't buy it, I said it is OK, i don't mind taking the risk and going quidco way which for the next 5 days is at £140 for my package and I told him that (which he verified).
I just didn't give up and said OK just cancel it, I don't mind shopping around and I've done my homework, I have excel spreadsheet in front of me and I see what's best for me.

He said that others would only offer 6mbps internet in the area and I told I knew that already. He obviously did his homework too, but I am willing to do this anyway, I don't have issues with 6mbps internet, I told him I used mobile broadband for few months and that I have good internet at my other home as live between two cities (which is true).
Just try it, you have nothing to lose. Even if they sound very convincing don't give up, just say - no cancel, I want best value for money and I don't think you can give that.
