Its not unknown for staff to hold onto pets for people and to offer advice and support.

sorry but i think the dog would feel better being with its owner of 13 years than palmed off to someone else, even temporarily. i have fostered a dog before and it was really stressed out having been moved around from person to person.
  • Well I think its cruel for a pet to be homeless without shelter or warmth especially if its knocking on. Obviously its bad situation for an adult as well to be in. A homeless adult cant meet a pets needs so its not fair.
The man has some control over the situation whereas the dog has non at all and there appears to be little way forward if they are going to stay together on the streets.
Its a sad state of affairs in this country if we cant find homes for people and their companion animals. A home is a basic right not a luxury I believe.

I agree with the last bit, but if the dog has been with its owner 13 years then it's probably being better cared for than the average Staffie. Dogs don't really look at things the same way humans do, so a mattress under an archway might be just as desirable to them as a posh bed in someone's living room (I know my Staffie prefers an old duvet in a cold tiled room to any of his £50 dog beds around the house). The main thing for a dog, aside from basic physical needs, is to be with an owner that loves it.

Places that are involved with rough sleepers should be able to help him.Like the Simon Community,Cyrenians,Emmaus etc.
Its not unknown for staff to hold onto pets for people and to offer advice and support. Its a common issue and they should be able to help with a way forward for them both.
    Wishing them all the best.

Please tell me you are not being serious on a few levels here.

For one.....how many times do..."these staff" do this in the course of their career ...??

Are you seriously happy separating and old dog and it's owner just to sling the dog into a kennel if the "staff" dealing with him don't take the dog home.

And importantly..!.....clearly it hasn't crossed your mind......that the dog likes hanging out with him, is quite happy, it is simply a case of someone trying to help a situation as opposed to change it , and recognising that this person maybe wouldn't ask for help, or have the finances.
Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.

and we can yadda yadda about it till cows come home but it won't do anything to help

i rather offer help myself, whatever little i can

and sorry but just voicing someone's views on issues does not improve those issues so perhaps if everyone has done a little something for someone else - we would not have to go on about "THEM who should"

    Hi
firstly to say the OP has obviously got a heart of gold and so has the person who offered a dog coat :)

but as board guide I have to point out the following MSE rules

sorry but exchanging details via pm is against MSE rules

    EXCHANGING PERSONAL DETAILS

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: For legal reasons I have to discourage swapping, buying and selling on the forum (please see this rule). While it can be a very useful way of saving money it relies on a certain amount of trust between members and as such can cause problems (and has in the past). If you have any questions about this policy please email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com.

and the following is in the new forum rules

Why can't I give something to/buy something from someone on the forum?
The safety of our forum users is paramount and for this reason we can't allow anyone to exchange their personal details either on the open forum or via PM, however honourable the intention.
This means we don't allow selling/trading/exchanging/swapping or giving as gifts, nor links to your ebay auctions, or other forms of advertising.

A work colleague befriended a homeless man and his dog she passed each week. She only ever gave him dog food for which he was very grateful.

When he had any money he fed his dog before he fed himself.

The Dog's Trust run the Hope Project to support the homeless and thier dogs.

I am sure of they felt there was any cruelty involved they would not be doing it.

    Glad, thanks for joining us.

I do not want to get into debate about everyone on here being adults and responsible for their own actions without the need for anyone patronising them by forbidding exchanging details.

Frankly I can not believe this rule exists on a forum, seriously? Shall we all behave like a bunch of 5 yo and go stand in the corner as a punishement?

Not having a dig at you, you did not make this "rule" but it is trully hillarious.

I am 45 and perfectly capable of looking after myself in real life as well as on the Forum.

Perhaps whover made this rule should think again and do not treat adults as kids who are not capable of using own brains to keep themselves safe?

If I do something out of my choice, I take full responiibilty for this and for the consequences so please ask whoever makes decision here to review the rules as they are absurd.

Do not take away my right, as an adult to make my own decisions. This is just wrong.

I guess the whole thread gets deleted now? It happened before.

    xxx
