Thanks again everyone.
Just ordered this one - in both medium and large:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B002OCPJD0?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00
From Amazon and with my Prime it will come tomorrow - will try them both on the dog when I see them next time and see which one fits.
With the one Storm's mum is posting to me, dog will have 2 coats when one gets wet etc....
Now looking at sleeping bags for Gavin....0 -
Thats kind of you to help the dog. I dont think its very good for the pet letting it live rough but at least it will be a bit more comfortable now.0

Thanks... Hopefully one of the three will fit xx0

Ermmmm - would the dog be better off in a shelter or being PTS? The owner is homeless so is the dog. None of them should be but they are. And they stick together no matter what. Dog was unwell in a PDSA hospital for few days - Gavin was heartbroken.
Perhaps consider that most homeless people look after their pets better than people living in expensive houses.
That dog is loved and he loves his owner back. They have been together for 13 years through thick and thin. That proves something.0 -

How on earth can you substantiate an absurd claim like this?0 -

It would be better off being fostered with someone, until he could get some accomodation sorted for himself. Once in a place he would then be in a better positon to find somewhere more suitable that would take the dog as well as him.
At the moment hes trapped because he says he cant get accomodation because of the dog. Some rented places will allow pets but you really have to look for them.
I'm sorry but from what I have seen a lot of homeless people dont look after their pets that well. They are often used as begging aids at the very least and the pets and their needs are neglected due to sleeping rough and trudging about all day.
I hope their situation improves for the better very soon and I hope the dog gets on with the coat.0 -

I agree to the extent that dogs living with homeless people (unless there is significant drug/alcohol issues) are likely to get more quality time with their owners and more likely to be better trained than the average household pet. Staffies are pretty robust - hopefully he can get housing sorted so they both have a warm and dry winter. If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0 -

And who would that "someone" be when there is so many dogs with no homes in UK?0 -
Places that are involved with rough sleepers should be able to help him.Like the Simon Community,Cyrenians,Emmaus etc.
Its not unknown for staff to hold onto pets for people and to offer advice and support. Its a common issue and they should be able to help with a way forward for them both.
Wishing them all the best.0 -
THEY should.....ok.
THEY also put dogs down - with an old dog like that this would probably be the scenario if he was handed over anywhere (not that there is anywhere safe to hand him over to, this is London)
If not you - whom?
If not now - when?
The above is my personal motto and I try to stick by it as much as I can.0
