I'm fully aware of the costs of leasing v PCP, HP etc. The intention is to own it for its life time (short sighted vision in hindsight). I've never leased a car and never intend to.

Shame you'll never consider leasing, you'd save a fortune even with high miles, plus if there is anything wrong its in the lease companies interest to get the manufacturer to sort it. The golf R deal (in fact most major lease comps) is 7p a mile excess, so if you did 60k on a 20k 2 year lease, it would cost £2800 extra - probably a lot less than the depreciation of selling a 2 year old golf r with 60000 miles as opposed to 20000.

In 2006 a mate of mine bought a brand new Focus diesel sport. Had all sorts of issues with and sold it at 4 yrs old.. Replaced it with a brand new Mazda 3 2.0d Sport. Again, had lots of issues with it.

Yes, the faults were fixed under warranty, but its taking time off work constantly that was annoying him and his wife.

He then got rid of the Mazda after 12 months (!) and now has a brand new ix35. But that only gets used at weekends now! His wife has retired and he now drives a 2001 Peugeot 206 back and forth to work.

I dread to think how much money he has chucked down the drain in depreciation since 2006.

All because he wants that new-car-on-the-drive-feel. Oh and "the reliability of having a new car.."

What do you suggest he do with the disposable income saved?
Years back I used to mock those that buy new or nearly new but in all honesty it was probably envy that I couldn't afford to purchase.
For me I'm not buying under the premise of it will be anymore reliable than an 8 year old car, This recent car I bought simply because I liked it, felt in the mood and could afford it whilst I'm still healthy enough to enjoy.

OP, reject it. It clearly is the wrong colour.
  • Thanks for response, wrote to customer service, they sent me back to dealer. Dealer repaired most issues but till have some. Written to dealer principle just got invite to book in again. Ive taken 8 hours off work in total as selling dealer not closest dealer. Issue started after it was taken to closest dealer for service.

Issue started to show when car was 10 months old!!

Eventually you will get the mechanic at the dealer who actually know what they are doing. You will need to book it in but do insist on a courtesy car and do ensure that if you drive it off the forecourt and it still has the problem, take it straight back, in fact when you collect, insist on a test drive before releasing the courtesy car - and when you drop it off arrange for a drive with the mechanic so they are fully aware of the issue.

    Should have got a Toyota.

Typical, another BMW with poor build quality and reliability, charging a premium for its 'life style image' and badge. Why people purchase these rubbish cars is beyond me

Because they're not all like that and they dont want to drive a dull-as-dishwater toyota?

Also, how many millions of safety recalls has toyota been forced to do, if they're that great?
  • Wasn't it BMW and Range Rovers where you could reprogram a key and drive off without the owner knowing?
  • Sorry for short replies but working. So spoke with lady dealing with complaint tutns out she has been given different catalogue to what I was given in writing.. im off to speak to a solicitor.
