NatWest

Around a year ago, I started the process of reclaiming my bank charges from Natwest, for an account closed some 4 years ago. In March this year I received an offer from them of £976 (just £4 than I was asking for) which I was going to accept.
Unfortunately, I had a series of personal problems meaning that never got the chance to send the acceptance form back - I had to leave the place I was living and lost all of my possesions (including my paperwork).
The problem I now have is, having gotten back on my feet I would like to request this money from Natwest, however I am unsure of how to go about it... I no longer have any of the paperwork, nor can I even remember the account number
Do you reckon I would be best writing to Natwest, explaining the situation ind including my old address, in the hope that they can match it up?
Would be a shame losing this money, especially after working so hard to get the offer in the first place.
Many thanks,0 -
I would certainly write to them giving your details etc but usually there is a time limit on any offer so they will probably tell you they have closed your claim as you didn't accept it within the standard 8 weeks.
Even if they were to open your claim they are likely to tell you everything is on hold until after the test case. I'll shift your post into the NatWest thread later and if you read through there you'll find users had great success phoning the dedicated department and the number is in post 484, having just had a quick read through.0 -
Hi all, hope someone can help me.
I have recently changed my bank account from a Natwest advantage gold account to an online alliance and leicester account, the problem I have is how to claim my bank charges back from the natwest, I also have quite a large loan through the natwest account. When I transferred everything to my A&L account I kept my natwest account open but only as a normal account but I have been told that I cannot pay my Natwest loan from any other account other than the account I got the loan through with the Natwest, if I try and claim my charges back is there a chance that they may try and close my account therefore would this mean that they would also try and claim back the money for the loan as well or can't they do that0 -
Check the terms of the loan agreement. You could simply set up a standing order to go from your new account into your old account just to cover the repayments.
I doubt that they will demand repayment of the loan, I successfully reclaimed from my bank when I had a loan.0 -
Has anyone else had dealings with the Natwest in the same way ?0

If you are a Natwest account holder and you requested that the repayments be debited from your a/c prior to the loan being agreed, then you will not be able to change a/c's. You can set up a s/o from A&L directly to Natwest which I suggest you do a good 4-5 working days before your payment is due to allow enough time to reach the a/c.
Natwest won't close your a/c if you reclaim your charges back, the loan needs to be repaid from that a/c. However you will not be able to close this a/c either until the loan is repaid in full.
Hope this helps - any other question please shout.0 -
Right, I've got as far as I can go now following the guide and writing the letters. My total claim is just over £2000 with NatWest. I haven't been offered a part settlement or received a response to my final demand or I'm going to take you to court letter.
So my question is what do I do now?- Start a court case? Will it be stayed?
- Contact the FOS? Will they do anything?
- Wait until the Test Case is over?
- I read on here that if you go the county court and file the claim instead of online it is less likely to get stayed and I may get the money by default. Is this true?

The FO won't take on cases now so you need to go through the court system although it is more than likely to be stayed and its very unlikely now you will "get the money by default". Please read Martin's article regarding what to do next.

So if I start a case with my local county court this is a better option as there is a chance it will not be stayed?
How would I go about doing this?0 -
Hi all
During december I went overdrawn 3 times by accident on an account that I don't normally use. I have on my other account a £5k overdraft limit.
Anyway Natwest wrote to me telling me that I was going to be charged £30 for being overdrawn once in dec.
Yesterday I checked my account and found that they have taken £90 out of my account in one go - 3x£30 for december.
2 questions:
1. They did not inform me of the additional £60, does that matter?
2. In taking £90 out of my account they have made me overdrawn again, where do I stand on not paying the £30 charge for it being them that made me overdrawn this time!
Any advice would be much appreciated :-)0
