    Hiya :)

I've finally dared open my bank statement and I find that I'm being charged a £28 maintenance charge from Natwest.

I haven't gone over my overdraft - so it's not an unauthorised overdraft charge or anything that I can see. And I don't think it's a charge for the same thing as it's listed as a maintenance charge and not an UO charge.

Hope I haven't confused anyone, I've got to ring back on Monday when the charges dept to enquire but it'd help if I knew what it was before hand.

    Thank you :)
  • Hiya, thank you for responding. I'm proud (cough) to say that i bank with Natwest. They informed me of this charge in a statement. They say i am to be charged my usual account subscription charge, "Plus a maintenance charge of: £28.00".

My partner is being charged exactly the same, by the same bank, and i also see a thread on here from somebody else - same charge, same bank. I'm guessing it's Natwest' way of thanking us for our custom?! Aaarggh!

can i challenge them? I feel like we're about to be mugged, of £56.00 (which is a big chunkka money), in broad daylight. Aaaarrrggghhh!

    Thankyou

£28 is their unarranged overdraft fee. Have you been overdrawn?

  • In the leaflet I received with my latest statement it says they've changed "Unarranged Borrowing Fee" to "Maintenance Charge". They must think changing the name changes things I guess.
  • Is it a delaying tactic?

If it is, do I just carry on sending the letters to reclaim the charges?
  • Over 6 months ago when I heard Martin speak on Radio 1, I was filled with hope. With the help of Martin and you people on here, I managed to claim back £600 from Capital One. It was very straightforward. I followed the procedure to the letter and I reaped the rewards.

NatWest owe me £1,900 and Barclaycard owe me £400 and neither show even a glimmer of hope.

I feel as though I've hit a brickwall now and been left in the dark as there is no definite solution to the current problems. I'm tired of playing this silly waiting game.

The more I wait, the less inclined I feel to see it through to the end. I feel like NatWest placed a suitcase filled with nearly £2k in nice, freshly printed notes on my doorstep and then snatched it away at the last minute.

    Just my thoughts.
  • Be patient things will work out. If you don't see any results in a few months, then contact NatWest and Barclaycard.
  • You set the time limits on this - not the banks.
If you feel that things have slowed down move onto the next stage.
You've done it before so you should know better than giving up.
    Don't let them win - it's YOUR money !!

Sorry if I am posting in the wrong place- Theres so many threads for bank charges Im a bit lost!

I am doing a claim for my Father. I have received the statements and the way Natwest have worded their charges is confusing me as to what can be claimed.

Can anyone tell me whether I can claim the following please:

    1-Overdraft arrangement fee
    2-Referral charges for month xx
3-Interest for month xx- this is charged every month regardless of whether in credit/debit.
4-Charges for month xx- this is always listed next to the interest (above) and again is regardless of debit/credit.
5-Unpaid item- this is confusing me- the account has an overdraft but they have refused some payments even though they couldve taken it as the money was there as such.
6-Facility fee- though doesnt state what facility it is!
7-There is one charge that just states "Interest"- whereas the interest at point 3 says its for which month.
8-Arrangement fee- again doesnt say what the arrangement was!
    9- Loan arrangement fee.
10-Draft fee for printing a bankers draft.

Sorry the list is so long. If anyone also knows on which of those items I can add interest (if any).

    Many thanks for any advice

Do you consider you case to be considered under the hardship claim? If you feel that you are struggling to make ends meet on a daily basis or have debt and can't manage or are on benefits, you can claim under this rule. Let meknow if you feel this may be an area of interest and I will tell you what to do next! It worked for me and within 6 weeks I had all my money back (and could have got it sooner) if I had acted quicker in certain areas. Worth a try.
