My gf and I recently bought a house together and so I added her to my current account and she left her Natwest one dormant.
Several months later she bought something from eBay and Paypal tried to take the money from her old, empty account without her realising it. Natwest declined it. Paypal tried again and had it declined again.
They charged a fee of £38 BOTH times, meaning that £76 of fees had been taken for Returned DDs. This then put the account overdrawn. They now want to charge her £28 for being OD.
She didnt find out about all of this until it was too late as when she changed her account details at a branch they didnt make the changes so she didnt get any letters.
Can she claim this back as unfair charges?0 -
I would get in touch with bank and try and sort it out over the phone,
You can reclaim them by using the 2nd letter template if you have the details. But the way things are going it is going to be a along wait with more charges being made.0 -
Hi
Advice needed. Got my bank statement from natwest today. I only have a basic account as when i claimed charges in the past they closed my current account. My statement says i didnt have enough funds in my account at the end of last month to pay b.t £31. Because of this i have been charged £38. I think this is a ridicuoulous ammount for a failed Direct debit. Is there some way of arguing this fee. I dont expect not to be charged but this ammount is more than the original payment. are there any template letters that i can send to argue this. By the way i did have £12.68 in my account at the time so i wasnt totally in the red when it happened.
Thanks for reading.0 -
Hi all,
After being a great fan of the site for some time and reading many of the forum threads I've finally taken the plunge, registered and posted.
Now to my dilema! A few weeks ago I sent a letter to Natwest Credit Card requesting a copy of my charges (the template letter off the site). On Friday I received a reply from the Natwest documenting my charges for the last 6 years (a total of £305.00) and an offer (goodwill gesture without admission of liability) of £96.12 which they have said is the difference between the original charges of £15-20 and the current £12 charge.
My question is: should I accept this offer, or should I push them for a little more.
After reading Martins article I know that he said it's a bit of a black art deciding what to ask for/accept but after searching all the threads I'm unable to find anyone that has had a similar experience with the Natwest.
All advice/opinions greatly received!
Many thanks0 -
The £12 has now been accepted as fair.
I do not think you will get any more unless you want to persue them for interest.
This has nothing to do with current court case.0 -
yep youre right - I spoke to them tonight as Ive just had £150 in charges slapped on me and they told me I would need to write in. Im too scared to as claimed back £1k a year ago and when I received that settlement the letter stated I couldnt claim again!0

Hi guys
I had card with both Natwest and Mint but no longer have the paperwork. I suspect there's been a few charges on them and having gone through another statement I may have found the account numbers. Do you know if all nawest cards and all mint card would start with the same numbers? If so what are the first digits? The ones I found start 454305 and 426393 - any ideas which could be which?0 -
anyone have one of these cards? Have tried phoning them but they claim they cant trace my account because closed....0
