I used to be on the old Contract AYCE One Plan but went to SIM only on a 12 month contract which expired recently and I *think* I am now just month to month, not sure?

If you go on your mobile phones web browser and visit http://mobile.three.co.uk it should tell you the date when the minimum term of your contract ended.
My question is are there any better alternatives out there or is what Three are now offering still the best I will get for my circumstances?

If I bought something like the Samsung Galaxy Note - the one which is a tablet and a phone - would that get around the restrictions? At the moment I just have the Galaxy SII and the screen on that is too small to use for general internet browsing and iPlayer downloads.

As long as the device can send/recieve phone calls, I think you can still use an AYCE data sim in it.

If you don't require tethering, I think Three are still the best option as they still offer plans with AYCE data.
My main concern when the new limits are put in place is how will you know if you are going over the limit and what can be done to prevent racking up a huge bill - or once you've reached your limit will tethering beyond 4GB just not work?

Based on what I've read, if you tether beyond 4GB the internet will just not work and you'll need to buy an addon if you want to continue tethering.

Three don't provide a way to monitor your tethering data usage, so you'll have to look at the statistics on your device i.e. on Windows view the network connection status and it shows you how much data you've used.

    Hi All,

I invite you to take part in this simple 6 question poll regarding tethering usage & requirements in the light of the UK's only truly unlimited tethering plan coming to an end by 5th Jan 2015. Act now and who know's we may be able to secure a group deal? Its worth a try as there is nothing left to loose now!

(If a non-newb could assist with posting an actual link on MMSE we would be most grateful!) cheers

I've answered the poll, but I don't really see how it's going to bring about any positive change.

EE and o2 allow tethering with no data cap, but their plans are so expensive.

If a mobile network did offer unlimited tethering in 2015 at a fixed price, it would probably be about £50 per month or more.

EE charge £50 per month for only 50GB data for regular mobile broadband without calls and text allowances.

Been on the one plan for 4 months. Not received text yet but probaly just a case of waiting. Bit disappointed as I left tesco on a got priced plan to 3 for this tariff

  • Just off the phone with Three (0800 358 3429). They appear to be under instruction to not offer any deals and wouldn't shift regardless of postings on forums where users have apparently been able to have discounts.

I am a One Plan user and they offered me unlimited minutes, texts and data, with 4GB tethering, for £28 per month (30 day) or £25 per month for a 12 month contract. These are SIM only.

The only other offer was for 600 minutes, unlimited texts and data, 4 GB tethering, for £23 per month (30 day) or £20 per month (12 month contract).

They confirmed that customers who do nothing, will be migrated to another plan on 5th January.

Has anyone recently had a better offer from Three?

If you want an offer then ask for your PAC and wait for the second level retentions team to call.

Then you have a much higher chance of getting offered a deal and nothing to lose.

Except that EE, and the others, are nowhere near as good value, even after the "no discount" discussion with Three. And Three know that some customers will leave and others will just roll over and accept what they offer.

Presumably the rest will either make an endless song and dance or beg.

Use Miracast with Roku Stick, currently £39 from Tesco and all your data is included as it is not tethered, your mobile screen just mirrors to your TV via the HDMI Roku Stick, works with Apple, Android and Windows Phone devices.

Just go to the app store and download the Roku app to your phone, plug the Roku into your TV's HDMI, link them and boabs your uncle you have a large screen internet browser with a mobile phone keyboard that's Fr33dom from the goalpost movers ;)

"Full" browsing on Windows/Mac/Linux internet browsers (Firefox/OperaIEetc etc ) consumes more data than a Miracast of a 'mobile' browser.

My Lumia and many smartphones allow you to request the "full" internet page from the browser or browser per page/tab settings, it displays on your mobile browser as full but the architecture behind such is not so, its compressed, unnoticed to the user, it is formatted differently to display it usually exactly the same as the page as if accessed from a desktop/laptop.

All the mobile networks would prefer you use such, it costs less to deliver data than a FULL browser, we may even see Miracast devices eventually offered by networks to compress data and extending our bundled allowances, whilst saving them data and associated costs ultimately.

    NOTE:
Google Chromecast maybe £5 cheaper for Android users, but the Roku gives access to 1000+ channels when you plug your Roku Stick into a HDMI TV where there is (non mobile provided) wifi available, handy for friends houses, hotels, holidays etc etc
SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe ;)
