I accidentally went over by £98 and have never been over in 8 years with lloyds. I paid charges of £60 and I closed my account with them at the same time

I am sticking with one bank account, smile and it is my home page, which I check every day. That and using mse money, means that I never ever go over. I learnt my lesson with lloyds

    Kitty, what is mse money?

    thanks.

Oh, Lloyds can charge upto £200 per month if you read the T&C's, it's all sneakily worded so it sounds like your gettinga better deal, but your not. Far from it! I am with them right now and check my online accounts every day. If you clear it the same day you won't be charged BUT they are very sneaky!! I checked mine one night at 8pm it was fine, then I decided to move money at around 11pm and I was over drawn after a DEB transaction came out, this was at 11pm giving me an hour to fix it! They seem to have stopped 'freezing' debit card transactions too, meaning you can spend the money then 3 days later the deb is taken out and your overdrawn. This doesn't happen everytime but it has happened a few times.

Needless to say I am moving banks shortly!

the good news is that if you have not been overdrawn in the past year they used to waive your first 'offence'. Not sure if they still do this however it is worth asking. Go into your branch though, the telephone reps just say no and hang up if you ask again.
  • Hi,
Hoping you can give me some advice on my situation.
I set up a current account with lloyds about a month ago and i have about £200 paid in on the first of every month. I do not have an arranged overdraft.

Last weekend i purchased petrol, and on tuesday i checked my balance to see i still had money in my account, so i purchased something that day.
On wednesday the petrol amount cleared from my account, and as such i was £30.33 overdrawn.

lloyds are now charging me a £15 monthly overdrawn charge, plus a daily fee of £15!! Have returned home on saturday and seeing this letter tommorrow is the soonest i can get to the bank!

What can i do to avoid paying £15monthly plus 4x£15=£60....so a total of £75???
    Help!
  • You can ring up and explain - they will usually waiver a fee the first time round, well that's my experience anyway. Enjoy the kindness as it's the one and only time from Lloyds!!

  • Hi there,

I know the information is out there on this but I'd love someone just to confirm things with me and check I have this right.

When I started Uni, I opened up a student account with Lloyds TSB. They gave me £1,000 interest free overdraft. As you can imagine...that didn't last long! Over the next couple of years, I increased it to £1,250 and then £1,500. Of course, maybe I shouldn't have, but at the time it seemed like an easy thing to do.

Anyway, last Summer I went over my overdraft without knowing, and then went off on holiday (not paid for by me). When I came back (this was after a fortnight) there was about a dozen letters from the bank wanting payment. I phoned them out, and to cut a long story short we set up an agreement where I'd start paying back the whole overdraft, which was to be about £175 a month over 10 months.

Since last Summer I finished my course but have started another one PT, and also work PT. Basically, the £175 a month I have to pay was/is too much to cope with on top of living expenses, and I fell behind. Each time I fell behind they charged me £20 a day for 10 days, and so sometimes I was putting money in which was just paying the charges, only for the next reduction in my OD to go off and the charges start up again.

I have called them before and restarted the repayment plan, but again I just fall behind. I've reached the point where I get the call centres calling and chasing me up I end up taking the phone off the hook. They've never bothered to check my personal circumstances and whether or not I can pay. I know maybe I could have told them but it can be quite intimidating.

Anyway I'm still in this rut. My OD is now at about £1,000 but I know that I have paid that and more probably, in charges.

I would love so much for these charges to be cancelled, which would clear my OD and give me a completely fresh start.

So is this the sort of situation where I can reclaim bank charges? Can I make a claim now even though I'm still in the middle of all this, and also the bank charges thing is passing through the courts?

    Thanks for all your help

They have tried to charge me £21 for being £1 overdrawn! To them the amount by which you're overdrawn is inconsequential.

As a result I have moved my account from a Select at £7 a month (I didn't enjoy any of the benefits on offer as I already got them from other sources anyway) to a Classic account that costs zero per month.

The next step will be a letter to them requesting a refund for any charges made on my account. I've told them this. They don't care. Their action has lost them my usual £84 a year so they did me a favour really, my anger prompted me to take action. I'm still furious about the £21 charge though.

I have just accessed my Lloyds account online for the first ever time.

My statements date back to 2002, I am horrified to learn i have been charged a total of £560 since 2003 all for RETURNED D/D.

I have read all the information on the site, but because the situation is ongoing i found it rather confusing.

    My questions are...

    1. Where do i send letter 1 'Data Protection Request' ?
    2. Where do i send letter 3 'With claiming interest' ?
    3. Are the above 2 letters all i have to do, to start the process off ?

    Many thanks.

    Hi,

If you have the statements there is no need to send out the 1st letter requesting a list of charges as you already have them. I sent the letter for the claiming with interest to my branch but there is a list of addresses in the article I think which would probably be better.

P.S. I did reclaim my charges succesfully from my bank accounts and credit cards.
