  • Hi,
Im trying to sort out an account on behalf of my boyfriend. He had always had an account with Loyds however as hes a bit rubbish in managing his money he incurred lots of fees, when he heard about the possibitily of reclaiming the fees he wrote to Lloyds to ask tem to do so and they replied with a letter advising him they could not refund his fees and that hey would charge him £30 for the cost of sending the leter in reply.
When I heard about this I advised him to open an account with another bank and forget about lloyds which he did. However a month or so later he received a letter to advise him that he was £680.00 overdrawn as he has a direct deit of about £15.00 per month which he had forgotten to transfer to his new account had made him overdrawn and then they had been charging him fees on top of fees until he amount reached £680.00 he went into the account holding branch and asked why he had not been notified earlier but they said that thy had sent 20 letters however he only received the most recent, we checked and they did have his correct address.
The branch refused to discuss his account as they said they had passd it to the collections department so he called them immediately. They advised that if he agrred to make small repayment then they would adjust his overdraft limit so that he would not be charged further fees. He set up a pyment plan and thought he could stop worrying about the account for a while.
I advised him in the meantime to send the template letter to try to reclam the fees which in total up to this date came up to £1500 and they sent a letter saying his claim would be pended untill the result of the appeal of the court case.
We happended to check his online account last week and found that Lloyds were infact continuing to charge fees of around £200 per month on to his account so it was now £880.00 overdrawn. I advised him to call up collections and settle the amount in full (and hopefully we will be ale to claim it back later) just to stop further fees being charged so we expected to pay £880.00 to settle the account however collections advised that in order to clear the account he would have to pay in £1300.00!!! As there were outstanding fees for July, which would take his overdraft over £1000 and therefore they would have to charge him £300 in August although he was settling his account in June. It seems to me that since he submitted his claim that they are charging him rediculous amounts that dont even make sense! Is there anything we can do as it seems so unfair and by now they must have charged hin over £2000 in total and its causing us a lot of upset and financial harship.
I would most appreciate any advise.
    Thank you, Esther

I have had a claim in with TSB for a while, most of it relates to the snowball effect of one returned cheque. My mother frequently gave me cheques drawn on foreign banks, in currency and these were paid in without problems. Then I received a letter saying a cheque had been returned unpaid, 3 months later, because of 'irregularity'. This was due to vagaries of currency exchange. My mother replaced the cheque, but in the meantime my account was short by £1000 and several direct debits were bounced. Each of these cost £35 which then left me overdrawn and it followed from there.

I am claiming these charges back as they amount to over £1000, and have another account, and only use the Lloyds TSB occasionally now, but since my claim has gone in, they have changed their charging policy, and what started out as a £12 over my overdraft, has now ended up as £395 as they cancelled the overdraft and started to charge £2 a day for the unauthorised bit plus interest.

Can I add this to the claim when they eventually get round to dealing with it?

No, just print out the statements with charges, these will be fine.

If you have all the info from internet banking then you don't have to request the statements.

I didn't put both names on the template letter for our joint account, I just put mine. HTH.
