hey the same has happened to me, £15 overdraft has now eventually resulted in £750 in charges under their new ridiculous scheme!!! What they are doing is surely illegal, i cant afford to pay these stupid charges and i dont see why i should.......but they are becoming very threatening now, what can i do.......i did try to pay something before they got this bad but lloyds refused to help and i told them i couldnt pay the full amount, they know exactly what they are doing and are basically just ripping people a new ar***ole!!!! HELP!!!!!!
  • I have been having financial difficulties over the past 6 months thanks to Lloyds TSB

They keep on taking £200 off me in bank charges even tho it is them that is taking me over drawn.

Every month they charge me £20 a day for a maximum of 10 days for being overdrawn straight after they have taken £200 out of my empty account.

The reason that there is no money in this account because I get paid around £700 at the start of the month and after dealing with living costs/debts, I have no money left.

I have been on the phone to the bank using the number that they provided me with and they have said that I would have to talk to the manager of my account. After 2 months of trying to get hold of him they said that they dont deal with things like this and then passed me a number to ring to sort it out.

THE NUMBER THEY GAVE ME WAS THE SAME NUMBER THAT TOLD ME THAT I WOULD HAVE TO TALK TO THE MANAGER OF MY ACCOUNT!!!!!!

Im going round in circles with this

This situation has not only affected me, but some of my family aswell.

It is ruining my life and left me very depressed.

The question that I would like to ask is: Is there anyway I can make this stop and can I get the money back off them?

    Please help
  • I've had the same problem with those numpties, and in all honesty I usually find the call centre far better at sorting things like this out that the branch :wall: .

What I eventually found out is that provided it is ONLY their charges that take you overdrawn then they don't charge you for being over your limit but they will still charge overdraft useage fees if you use the overdraft for anything else.

For example, if your overdraft is £300 and they take £200 in charges, resulting in you being £350 overdrawn (and £50 over your limit), they won't charge you for being over your limit as long as that is the only reason (ie, nothing else comes out or generates charges), but they will charge useage fees for the £150 that you have used in the month, as well as any further charges incurred on dd's etc.

What I did in the end was to cancel most of my dd's (just left essentials like electric, but changed then all to come out 3 days after pay day) for a couple of months and change the payment date on a couple of cards to make the payments due about a week after my next pay (don't try this with a TSB card cos they end up sending a bill on the original payment date, then another one on the date you changed it to (8 days later in my case) with charges for late payment even tho that bill was sent before the original one would have been due  ).

You should be able to avoid late payment charges this way and the difference in payments isn't usually much, but even if you do incur a late payment charge, it's still cheaper than late payment charge + failed dd charge, or extra overdrawn charges.

Couple of months later, once all the overdraft charges etc have caught up and been paid (these are usually 1-2 months behind) then reset your dd's and that should be it sorted.

The other possible suggestion I got when I phoned (although they wouldn't do it in the end cos the computer said no ) a temorary increase in your overdraft to cover the charges, but they'll probably take that back off a month later leaving you £200 short the following month plus any remaining charges that have to come off. If you can get them do it for 3 months then it might be worth thinking about (2 months losing the extra overdraft in charges, then the 3rd month lose the extra overdraft) but you would need to take any interest etc into consideration.

Sorry for the long post. Hope it's of some help.

p.s You don't say what number you were given, but try this one 0845 300 0000. They're usually pretty good.
If you can't think of anything good to say, then you're better off not saying anything
  • Hi everyone

I am completly new to this and need some advice. I sent off my first letter to recalim UNFAIR bank charges. I received a letter saying it was being dealt with by a particular department and would receive a letter shortly. I got that today stating

'we believe our account fees are clear and fair. However, LLoyds tsb has now become involved in legal proceddings with the OFT. Usually we would try to resolve your complaint as quickly as poss however due to the proceedings we have asked FSA to suspend the normal timetable for dealing with bank charges'

So I am a little confused as what to do next, do I send the second letter or do I hang on and wait

    thanx for any advice

  • please forgive me if i am wrong on this as i haven't tried claiming my bank charges since eveything was put on hold but i found this info in the step by step guide that martin has written:

    What happens next
Most people should get a letter back from the bank acknowledging the complaint, yet saying that the financial regulator, the FSA, has given it permission to suspend all bank charges complaints. The same is true if you try and go to the Financial Ombudsman. Ardent and experienced reclaimers could try and continue with your complaint in the county court, but in most (although not all) that will be put on hold too.

“Now it’s simply a case of waiting while the test case lawyers battle it out.”
The rest of this guide was written before the test case was announced; and remains for reference. Once the test case is resolved it’ll be updated.

this is the guide it came from http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/reclaim/bank-charges

hope that helps you out, good luck!

hi, i am currently a second year student at university and in need of desperate help so any advice will be greatly appreciated.

i opened a bank account with Lloyds TSB about 1 and a half years ago and it was registered to my university halls address. i bought some presents for my family this christmas and i wasn't aware of the fact that i had gone over by £16 in my account. my bank account did not have an overdraft and i have always been under the impression that if you dont have enough money in your account, then your visa debit card that comes with account does not go through.

i just got a call couple of days ago after all this time from Lloyds telling me that I owe them nearly £235 because they have been chargin me something like £7.50 everyday and then another £15 a month.

i have been told to pay this much by may 1st, 2008. can someone please help me as i am not sure of what to do because i am in debt as it is because of being a student in london. i never used the lloyds bank account after i did that christmas shopping, and i wasnt aware of this problem becuase i had actually not changed my address from university halls to the flat i live at now.

    hi there! :hello:
I've had a claim in with Lloyds TSB since november for credit card charges. This went to the Financial Ombudsman who sent me a letter saying that Lloyds were offering me the full amount as a refund. I signed the reply form, sent it back recorded, and since then the money has gone off my credit card account. (credited my account 7th April)

Anyway, today I've received a letter from Lloyds offering me a reduced amount as full and final settlement, the letter was dated 17th April. They've asked me to sign the form and return it for the money to go on my account.

I don't get it!!!!! They've credited my account already, what would you do with the letter? OH suggested I sent the form back anyway just to see what happens! :D

Any ideas? I have no idea why this has come through and its completely thrown me. Any help would be appreciated!!

    ta xx

Clearly their left hand doesn't know what their right hand has done. Just write back pointing out their mistake and that this claim has already been settled.

Your OH's suggestion, although tempting, is basically dishonest and will more than likely come back and bite you.

Can anyone tell me if the new Lloyds Bank way of charging £6 per day if you go over your overdraft limit up) to £15 or £25 (cant remember which it is) and then even more per day if higher than that amount.

I successfully claimed back £700 last year, but now these charges are beginning to mount up again.

    Thanks

  • Has anyone else noticed that Lloyds Bank has introduced a new charging system that is even more scandalous than the previous one. Previously, I could only ever be charged a maximum of £90 in a month for being over my limit. The new system last month charged me £165 for being £40 over my limit. I couldn't ******* believe it.

Why is it that they can't seem to understand (or admit) that by charging me this amount they are only sucking further me into this frustrating cycle.

It isn't coincidence that the amount I'm trying to claim back is the same amount I owe them.

They're all ******* ***** these ******** banks. They make upwards of £5-9 billion a year, they even remove water machines and plants to save money (I know this first hand) the tight ********.

Lets just hope this test case ends favourably and we can all get on with it.

It's not like they can't afford it as it is it's our money.

Thank you for taking the time to read my little rant.

    Regards

    Chris
