I know... We watch our spending so much, we have a large mortgage payment and commuting to work is expensive enough! We are doing a house up to sell on which obviously adds to the bills as well. He has been bouncing in and out of his overdraft for quite a while and has always tried to stop before it goes over but it seems no matter how hard you try they always manage to slip a charge in that makes it tumble over... its just a nightmare!!!!!! I just dont understand how Lloyds can get away with DAILY charges??? Wot happened to a limit on charges per month???? How is that being helpful in the slightest... seems like daylight robbery to me!!!!!!! We were considering trying to claim back his charges last year until i heard that there was some unsettlement in the 'claiming back' camp.... whats going on with it now? I thought it was Lloyds that was causing all the grief orginally? Is it worth still trying to claim them back... its under £5000 i think.
Thanks 4 advice
It is these people who started this!0 -

Hello
I just wanted to clarify what on earth the banks are doing now, i opened a statement today to find Alliance & Leicester have charged me £5 per day for going over my overdraft and my mum has also told me Lloyds are charging her £6 per day.
Are these the new way of the banks charging us?
Kind Regards

I recently received a letter from a 'certain bank' stating 'I offer our unreserved apologies for any distress our calls have caused you' after I wrote to both the bank and to the Ombudsman about harassment - the calls which were over a period of years(!) were to my place of work as well as my home and mobile. Unfortunately the calls were taken by my manager and other members of staff which caused me no end of embarrassment, distress and depression - I was just wondering if anyone knows whether I should be entitled to some form of financial compensation because of this and also because the bank have now admitted in writing that what they did caused distress?
I should say here that I put in my original letter all the rules they had broken according to the Office of Fair Trading Debt Collection Guidance booklet - the link I received from Rog02 - so many thanks go to Rog02. :T
I guess no-one has any answer to this question.............................Marya0 -
I had this problem with Alliance & leicester, but i found out that if i was polite i got further(not saying that you weren't) sorry but sometimes being a woman that gets emotional gets you further.
i tried it luckily enough i got a man at the other end ( that always works well) i explained that the charges were too much and how could i get them stopped or even possibly getting them reversed, as the overdrawn amount was due to them in the first place and how was i ever going to be able to pay it off if i was going to get charged every day, he said that they keep forms to send to customers in this predicament, he sent one i filled it out with the usual how much is spent on this that and the other and all of my charges were refunded... its worth a try0 -
This may have been asked but have been working abroud for the last 5 months. i started the ball rolling with lloyds tsb last june and sent all the letters and got only one reply of " everything on hold untill the court dates in feb" well what has happened as have heard nothing and the b***ers are owe me £4995 (and i didnt even add the intrest!). Is there anyone i can phone or write to so i can chase it up or is it still on hold?0

can it be right that Lloyds for example go on charging amounts for o/d's and unpaids which the court are still debating?
is it legal?
doesn't seem right to me0 -
I was also thinking about this player99. The banks appear to be charging interest on what was once an interest free over draft. This started at the beginning of the year. Thus, I'm with you on this. They are basically charging interest on what the courts may deem is the money that they owe us. I am going to go through the County Court and add the over draft interest up to the judgement date plus the 8% interest on that interest. Confusing as that last statement sounds, I hope I can get it said in all one go at the court.
Presently, the account I am claiming bank charges on remains dormant. In order that I do not go over my once "free" over draft facility of £800, I have to keep putting in money to cover the interest the bank is now charging monthly.
I hope one of the experienced forumites can answer our question.0 -
Have the same problem as my bank (HBOS - Halifax) have just charged me £35 for a sky DD that didnt get paid because I miscalculated when sky would ask for it, they normally take it on 27th or 28th of month so on 26th I paid in some money to ensure that it was covered but they had requested it earlier that day/overnight. Can HBOS legally charge me this £35.0
