HI, I'm in serious trouble with Lloyds and I can't see a way out of it...

I have a student account with an overdraft of £1000.

I'm now £2100 overdrawn with £900 of that being overdraft charges.

I went overdrawn a while ago without knowing, and I don't check my statements regularly. It got to £1600 when I first noticed and i don't see a way out of it. I can't afford to pay back the money to get me back down into my overdraft limit and they won't stop charging me.

    Can anyone help?

I have had just also received a charge from this muppet bank for £165 for being £9 overdrawn for 2 weeks. I live in Spain so I don't get to check my account as much as I like. I called the telephone banking (which cost me 1.5 Euros a min) and I just got 2 unhelpful women who Patronised me by telling me to manage my money better. I have put a complant in but that wont do much good. I will keep you posted on how I do.

Similar for me the spotty youth (I assume) on the line told me to manage my money better or perhaps cancel my sky subscription. Told him I was going to tell his mum he'd been nasty to me. :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
  • I opened an account with the Lloyds in 2007, and over the past year, I have incurred various charges, however in the last 3 months they have charged me over 200 per month under their new charges scheme ie if you are overdrawn, they charge you £20 per day, up to a maximum of 10 days, thus every month I am now being charged £200, the crazy thing is that I have now changed banks and am paying £120 per month to try and clear the debt, currently £1420, at this rate, I will end up owing a further £80 per month!, how can I escape this spiral and are these charges ethical, can I put in a claim for charges and if I do will they demand that I pay all the money back in one go.....please help getting desperate....
  • lloyds have just done the same to me, i just got out of the red. when bang all of a sudden they took £215 for being overdrwn back in jan.. this was at 20 a day. so now im unable to pay my mortgage again will will get return then ill get charged for that, im at the end of my tether and dont know which way to turn.

I recently received a letter from a 'certain bank' stating 'I offer our unreserved apologies for any distress our calls have caused you' after I wrote to both the bank and to the Ombudsman about harassment - the calls which were over a period of years(!) were to my place of work as well as my home and mobile. Unfortunately the calls were taken by my manager and other members of staff which caused me no end of embarrassment, distress and depression - I was just wondering if anyone knows whether I should be entitled to some form of financial compensation because of this and also because the bank have now admitted in writing that what they did caused distress?

I should say here that I put in my original letter all the rules they had broken according to the Office of Fair Trading Debt Collection Guidance booklet - the link I received from Rog02 - so many thanks go to Rog02. :T

    Hi Guys,

My partner is having an absolute nimghtmare with Lloyds at the moment. He has been an account holder with them for over 10 years now but has lately been overdrawn quite a few times. Generally it has been there charges that have taken him over his limit which was annoying. the charges use to be a set amount per month so it might mean having to pay £100 in charges which was rediculous enough but NOW..... They are charging him on a daily basis every day he is overdrawn another £15 gets added on in charges... he had a letter saying he was £70 over his limit so he went in today to pay it but when he asked at the counter they said they needed over £300!!!!!!! Its so crazy!!!!!!!!!! He spoke to the manger and he said there was absolutely nothing he could do and to phone the customer service number if he was unhappy. He walked out saying he will close the account and they'd have to chase him for the money.... its been going on for too long now and this next step they have taking is just too far!!!! what happened to a limit on the number of charges in one month?? They are raking it in on our expense and we cant do anything to stop them.... HELP!!!!!! Should he close it?? what can we do?? Time is ticking and more charges are being added on!!!

The only problem is that if he does not alter his spending pattern then these charges will accrue at whichever bank he opens an account with.

Banks today won't give a toss if you close your account because, guess what, as he goes out of the door someone else will walk in with the same complaint to open an account from another bank.

I know... We watch our spending so much, we have a large mortgage payment and commuting to work is expensive enough! We are doing a house up to sell on which obviously adds to the bills as well. He has been bouncing in and out of his overdraft for quite a while and has always tried to stop before it goes over but it seems no matter how hard you try they always manage to slip a charge in that makes it tumble over... its just a nightmare!!!!!! I just dont understand how Lloyds can get away with DAILY charges??? Wot happened to a limit on charges per month???? How is that being helpful in the slightest... seems like daylight robbery to me!!!!!!! We were considering trying to claim back his charges last year until i heard that there was some unsettlement in the 'claiming back' camp.... whats going on with it now? I thought it was Lloyds that was causing all the grief orginally? Is it worth still trying to claim them back... its under £5000 i think.
    Thanks 4 advice :)
