    Hi all,

Just registered to ask a question of my own. I have successfully claimed my charges back from HSBC many months ago but now we hae a different issue with my partner's bank. She has now had a letter from Lloyds saying she has an overdraft fee of about 30 quid but there is also a DAILY charge of £20. As we will e overdrawn until we next get paid I have worked out that the charges in total will amount to about £300...where do we stand with the bank about this as we are furious and would like this one nipped in the bud as soon as possible without going down the courts route again??

    Thanks all!!

No chance I don't think. It's their new 'fairer' charges. £700 is my record that was last September. They don't give a s*** but good luck anyway.
  • The maximum you will get charged is £215 for an unauthorised / unplanned. Which is 1x £15 of monthly fee, and 10x £20.

The only way to get any charges above this figure is too incur returned item fees (like cheque / standing order / direct debit ). Oh yeah you may get charged interest but thats separate from the charges issue.

Chipbeck may I ask how you got £700 in one month? Thats maybe 20 returned items in a month or were the charges for something else?
    Credit card debts = £750
    Mortgage Remaining = £82227
  • hi

i would guess to get upto £700 would involve creative use of the date a month is deemed to start. ie. 10 x £20 to say 20th then another 10 x £20 to the 30th as it to the bank is a different month. with some returned cheques for good measure.

They refused about 7 direct debits which was probably a couple of hundred then they put the old £20 a day jobby on that probably ran for 20 or so days. I didn't complain because these new charges are obviously a lot fairer.

Can I just ask why you would do this? Surely when you are working for an employer you are expected to be 'loyal' to them? Won't it get you into trouble - or even dismissed if Lloyds TSB find out you are on this forum? I'm sorry to sound so mistrusting but I've had so much trouble with what my daughter and I now term 'the evil bank' that I no longer trust anyone who works for Lloyds TSB.

Hi stefm31 - sorry I can't help with your question but I wanted to say you sound as though you are being treated in the same way as me by this 'wonderful' bank. I've got letters from their solicitors saying something very similar after writing to Lloyds TSB for the past 2 years with explanations of my situation and OFFERING payments!! They didn't even have the courtesy to write back in most cases so I eventually sent all of my evidence to the Ombudsman only to receive a letter back from them saying Lloyds TSB don't know who I am!!!!!!!!! How strange then that I receive a letter from 'the evil bank' saying how sorry they are to learn I have a complaint against them and that they will get back to me in EIGHT weeks!! I thought they didn't know who I was?!?! Isn't it about time someone started telling these banks that they have a moral obligation to sort things out IMMEDIATELY and not think they can stall for more time so they can think of yet another get out? I'm heartily sick of banks and their attitudes. I wish we could go back to the 'good old days' when pay was put into our paypackets and WE had the choice whether or not to use a bank........if I had the choice I would NEVER use a bank again. All they can see is £££££££ signs and to H*ll with the ordinary person trying to make an honest living.

Basically i dont work for a Lloyds branch, or even Lloyds bank so have no loyalty to them, they dont pay my wages. I work in another company but have access to lloyds info as we are technically part of the lloyds group.

And i dont bank with them, in case you wondered, as my fiancee used to and they were a complete nightmare. He is in the process of claiming back (or trying to at least) his bank charges, and i am happy to say that I am one of those people who believe in the plight of the little people.

and Lloyds cant say anything, as I am not allowed to divulge personal data, and signed an agreement to that fact, but the stuff i mean (ie - inside knowledge - which may or may not be useful!) is readilly available to all Lloyds employees, and i can talk about that all i like, legally.

Obviously I wouldnt be telling Lloyds this tho.....

Thank you for the reply - I hope you understand after reading my 2nd post why I feel the way I do about Lloyds TSB. Your explanation is a great help - sorry for mistrusting you.
