Hello.
I was repaid about £360 by Lloyds TSB a few months ago after reclaiming my charges. A short while later I was laid off from work for six weeks. At that time, the Bank took away my overdraft and started charging me more for oweing them the money. I was about £850 into a £1,000 overdraft but now with the additional charges I am about £1,150 overdrawn.
I know it's stupid, but I buried my head in the sand and ignored the problem for a while. I should have known better but it was the first time I have been out of work and found it hard to deal with.
Just after they did this, I started work again and am now earning pretty good money. I think I would be completely paid up by now, but after they charged me for that I decided to have my wages paid right into my girlfriend's account so they weren't just swallowed up in my debt.
Is there a way I can close the account and just agree to pay Lloyds back a certain ammount every week?
Thanks for any advice offered.reclaimed charges from lloyds tsb: £360

Dont know what you were thinking but you should have spoken to the bank and should have paid all or at least part of your wages paid into your account. So I hope you did that.
You cannot close the account without it being completely paid up. Also if the bank sees no income coming in will eventually close it from their end and pass the details on to a finance recovery firm, i.e. debt collectors. Also your credit record would be shot.
However I am a bit confused by your post as you said you thought you were nearly paid up, so does that mean you did pay in money into your account?
I am not from Lloyds but most banks have nearly the same procedures.
You might want to try claiming back some of the charges. maybe you will get something back.0 -
Thanks for your reply mate.
When I started work again, my first few days wages were swallowed up by my account because my overdraft was removed and charges added. I couldn't afford to live without my wages after being out of work for a month or so, and decided to use my girlfriends account to have my wages paid in.
If Lloyds hadn't removed my overdraft (which I was within at the time) then I'm sure I would not owe them a penny by now.
Do you think that if I write to them and ask for my overdraft to be put back in place I will be able to use my own account again for wages without them taking the lot off me?reclaimed charges from lloyds tsb: £360

the only way to find out is to ask. take your last 3 payslips with you and an id. Have a chat with them. If no joy ask for the manager. Stay polite and friendly and I am sure they might want to help you out.
Good luck.0
