    Hi,

I'm new to posting but not new to the site, here's my question:

I have an overdraft limit of £1900. A direct debit took me over my limit on the 20th November, then today (22nd) I received a letter from my bank to say that they were going to charge me a monthly fee of £15 for an unplanned overdraft, plus £15 for each day I was over the limit. So in total I'm being charged £45.

I rang the bank and politely asked if the charge could be waivered as I was only over the limit for 2 days (I got paid today), and the bank refused and said that because of the amount I was over (£37) they could not waiver the charge. She said it was my responsibility to check my balance, and that they offer a text alert service for £2.50 a month to warn me when I am near my limit! why would I pay £30 a year so that I don't get a bank charge! Or is that just me??

This is the first charge I've had, so is it worth reclaiming, or should I just learn from it?

    Thanks for any advice

Also new to posting to this forum. Your case sounds the same as with my son at present. He previously arranged a temporary increase on his OD to £2,300 for a short period as he was expecting his wages to go in to cover. Unfortunately, like you, he had a SO/DD take him over the limit.

He received a letter telling him he'd be charged for an unplanned OD over his limit and would be charged £20 a day!!! Q. Why are you being charged £15 a day and he £25 a day?

I put £100 in his account to get him below his OD until this week yet he's had another letter telling him again about a "continued unplanned" OD and what they will charge him

He did get in touch a short while ago explaining his situation at a face to face meeting - that was before this. He tried to increase his OD on line but was told to phone... he wasn't allowed extra to cover as he had been before YET they still want to make the charges. Is this action on their part "unfair practice" as they'd allowed extra previously? He's unsure about trying for reclaiming these charges as he doesn't feel confident to do it

He's also just finished paying off a personal loan he took out with them at over £350 a month repayment - which will now go to reducing his OD.

Any one able to comment/assist?... Martin?

    Hi,

The amount charged per day varies depending on the amount you exceed your limit by. Between £25 and £100 it's £15 per day, and over £100 it's £25. I think it's absurd!

The other thing I'd like to know is do I have to wait until I've paid the charge in order to reclaim it - I think the charges are debited at the end of every month. I'm also worried about them demanding the overdraft be paid off - I don't have the money.

They told me that ALL Lloyds TSB customers were sent a leaflet with new charges on 1st November - did anyone get this as I don't remember getting one (but there agin if I did I wouldn't have read it!), they also said that the new charges are mentioned on the telephone message when you ring telephone banking ( it isn't because I rang back to check!).
  • Hi all,

Quick question, I started reclaiming card charges proceedings against LTSB on 19th Nov this year. (Sent my first "I want this amount back" letter on that date...)

Just received a letter off them saying that they won't refund as they're fine and right and they don't agre with the ombudsman etc (no suprise there).

They have offered to supply me with the FO details though "If we cannot come to an agreement". Does this mean that i can now go straight to the FO without the required 8 week wait??

Any answers greatly appreciated, i leave it in the hands of the experienced forum members!
