And definitely something that having ready access to a wide variety of films and their trailers online makes easier to find and want to watch.
I've finally got round to hooking up the laptop to the TV. SBS has 500 films you can watch at any one time so we've been looking at them.0 -
Thanks for the headsup. :j
I read the original book in the 70s - The Futurological Congress by Lem. An astounding SF author from Poland. Wrote futuristic fables and was fantastically original. lj's a fan. We discussed his books three years ago.
Need to watch this.:)
I don't think its an adaptation but rather 'based on' . Please feed back after you have seen it.
Possible spoiler, do not read.....does not relate to plot but my experience of film. If you are not the sort that looks at film details before watching do not read in, if otoh you check a film out then it's ok
Also, its a very international film. Watching I thought American and one other country that didn't sit right. ( naively absorbed in plot) Once finished and glancing at the credits I understood it was more European thI felt I wish I'd known earlier. The disconnect between the already loopy film and what I thought and where I felt further discontent from placement was even more disconcerting and unsettling as my mainly subconscious expectation of what this craziness might go I realised was related to where I thought the film was ' from' and these 'norms' were subconsciously being challenged. I didn't realised any of this till I felt relief and understanding at the the origins of the film and that the geographical shift in my mind helped me accept this more easily. Weird? That the inspiration book author was Polish or Polish origin? also is somewhat settling I think.
Tbc this is not a xenophobic reaction but a confusion over art and style and history a disconnect that felt odd.
Also, I wish I were just a bit older, because there were purely visual memories viewing that hit me that I felt I had borrowed from my sibling.0 -
Got a cold a frozen shoulder so not a happy bunny.
Fitted a wireless extender and can now get good coverage at the back of my back garden which is nice, as I run a media PC with all music/pictures/TV it means I can watch/listen to anything while at the end of the garden on my swing seat.
Harumph. ( with a hurrah for you!) We have a wireless extender and this means we get wireless in half of the kitchen.
We do get connection in the front garden, but not the back.0 -

I like the Worlds Fastest Indian. Great film that has broad appeal. My type of film really. I don't like films that are graphically violent, don't like fantasy, don't like films that are overly sentimental either.
I like action films that aren't too sweary or violent... such as Indiana Jones, Jewel in the Nile, National Treasure, Oceans 11, Bond franchise, if anyone has any recommendations. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? On the plane I caught up with a number of films I'd either missed or weren't shown at my local cinema.. On the way out it was Birdman, Boyhood, Gone Girl and Big Hero 6. On the way back I watched The Grand Budapest Hotel, then decided to switch to TV so watched a couple of episodes of Curb your Enthusiasm, (then it was nap time for a few hours), and watched the first couple of episodes of Orange is the New Black.
It did make me think that I could probably get quite good use out of something like Netflix.
Did we decide on who's delivering us our new thread??0 -
Are we allowed to ask where you went Nikks? For whatever reason, I'd got it into my head that you were in Europe. But not if you managed to watch all that. Isn't Boyhood alone three hours long? Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? It's certainly a big enough house to warrant some network cabling. I'm doing it on my current project. When it's in, we'll plug in wifi repeaters from those so it's across the whole house.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

I think a boy should do it. Has zag had a go? Or michaels? I know there was a plan for ladies first, but I think female contigent of this thread grows a bit faster than the number of threads we create.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

My sil has this at her house, makes a huge difference. I'd guess her house is a little smaller than lir's, but not a lot in it. My bil is an electrician who specialises in stuff like that.
In terms of the next thread... who hasn't done one yet? ETA... agree with Doozer re boy...
