The pool sounds glorious! I just wish I could do the same. And you still have a large garden. Another plus, it's covered. Will it be heated?
Honestly, I cannot think of a reason to not do it, as long as it is heated. If not, it won't get that much use.Still striving to be mortgage free before I get to a point I can't enjoy it.

Friends have a pool in the south of france, heated off air source heat pumps and it costs E35 a day to heat - that's once it's up to temperature.
Mr is rich enough to have retired at 40 and still doesn't keep it on.

AS we have mains gas I was thinking combined with a chp boiler it could be very cheap to heat, the plan of having it indoors would be to keep it hot all year, I don't know how easy it is to insulate the bit below ground but obviously the building it is in can be well insulated and with a cover evaporation (which is the majority of heat loss) should be minimised. With a CHP heater (also heating the house) the 'free' electric can be used to run the filter pump and the MHRV (to control the humidity). No idea what chemicals would cost - can you use UV or saline electrolysis?
The pool (along with a conservatory to join it to the house) would take up about 25% of the back yard.I think....0 -

We looked at a house with an indoor pool once. It made the whole house smell of chlorine. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

It is a good point, I was hoping that by using uv or saline cleaning, seperating from the main house via a conservatory and the mhrv we would avoid that problem but who knows.
I have found pool underground insulation claiming to have a u of 0.18 - how would I work out how much heat loss that equated to in kwh?I think....0 -
You could go view houses with a pool to help you decide if you google rightmove pool (your county) i found quite a few around here, all seemed to be £1m+ houses. When using the housing forum please use the sticky threads for valuable information.0

I'm off to North London for about three hours returning DD from whence she came. Is somebody going to start the new thread while I'm gone, or do you want me to do it, in which case it has to be now. (bearing in mind I can't do fancy stuff like pictures)? Michaels has seniority here I think, if we're sticking with the gents. I'm back! Was a decision made? Or are we happy to drift on for a while and see if we fall off the edge of the interweb.;)
Just spotted GDB's around and he's got a longer history on this forum so maybe his hat'll be in the ring. There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
It's good of you to think of me, Zag, but it's fine to go ahead. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0
