Lots of gentlemen callers this morning Chez Nikkster
First I met the guy who'll be fitting my front door - he came to double check all the measurements for the frame as weather permitting the new door will be happening the week after next.
Then I've had someone who reminded me rather too much of !!!!!! van Dyke (looks wise rather (in his Diagnosis Murder years) than cockerney accent) looking at the chimneys. I've learnt quite a lot, and he seems like a nice chap. Might have a problem with effluorescence, but he doesn't think the dodgy brick chimney is as bad as I feared. Clearly I know next to nothing about chimneys but he did seem genuinely knowledgeable.
I'm hopeful that the chimney work won't be as expensive as I was preparing myself for. Might even be able to get the fireplace put back into the second bedroom and have a bit left over from the amount I had pencilled in.
I always forget that chimneys are there or that fireplaces ever had a use. One country route I drive home fom work takes me past a coal merchant and it makes me feel like I've passed through a timewarp into the past! There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
Been to our midwife this morning, all is good had a listen on the doppler, midwife said it sounds more like a boy but admits its no where near an exact science.Have my first business premises (+4th business) 01/11/2017

We have fluorescent tube light fittings in the kitchen. They need replacing, as they are beyond their useful life. What would the NP suggest replacing them with that will give comparable almost shadow-free light? No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0

Seems a sensible approach, especially as you are all rational. I wonder how much info the consultant will be prepared to give without including patient in the conversation?I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Depends how much of a mess of your ceiling you are prepared to make. We have just had LED GU10s fitted. But they replaced dodgy mr16 spot bulbs so the ceiling wasn't wrecked in the process. We now have far more light than before.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. I don't really want a load of downlighters, if possible. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
I'm only waking up for a few minutes at a time today. My bed is warm and comfortable though.......that busy start to week is still working its way out I think. Nap zone here...warm, animaly, and sleepy...0

We have loads of LED downlighers, we use the wide angle bulbs not the spotlight style ones, the light is good but I suspect having all these downlighers will at some point go out of fashion and then be very dating.
I would say if like us you like lots of light, lots of the time then an LED solution quickly pays for iself in reduced leccy bills.
LIR, don't know why you are complaining, sounds like bliss to me.I think....0 -
I have nearly replaced every bulb in the house with LED lights of many types and can say its one of the best things I have done.
Personally I have gone for day white for the whole house as warm white just makes everything yellow.
For the GU10s its COB LEDs you are looking for for best coverage/angle.
In my kitchen we went from 10 35w bulbs to 10 6w bulbs and actually have more light for it while using 17% of the power.
On the wider front I can see a geniune drop in electic usage since most of the lights got changed.Have my first business premises (+4th business) 01/11/2017
