Filling in a pool like that is an interesting conundrum. You need something about the same weight as the water the foundations were built for. Concrete or packed earth are around twice the weight of water. Maybe make the concrete out of pumice? :)

If you pumped helium into the pumice it would be even lighter.

The next door neighbour's dog has tried to drown in that pool and failed miserably, and he is only a terrier size. If you jumped in I doubt your knees would get wet. They call it heated, I suspect that it is heated by a kettle.

A garden can be fenced without fencing the pool within it. .....and houses often stand alone..

But a toddler would fail to get over the water filled ditches road side here probably ;)
It is great to have you back and posting L.

It is strange, we also were allowed a lot of freedom when growing up and thinking back it is amazing we all made it to adulthood unscathed. Before I had kids I would have agreed with you 100% but now I find myself copying the worst of the nanny state tabloid safety precautions. Somehow with something so precious and for which you feel so much responsibility it becomes impossible to look at risk rationally.

If we get a pool it will be indoor (or be it with lots of glass and opening doors) so it can be used year round.
    I think....

I suppose it's easy to be wise after the event. Normally, I expect you smash a few holes in the bottom of the pool to provide drainage, then fill it up with rubble topped off with topsoil. And it all works out fine. Swimmingly, even!
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Don't worry Michael I've been working!

Enjoying the new job very much. It's very challenging, but I'm up to it; it's perfect really. Really like where I live. Landed on my feet!
Mas so glad it is working out for you after the last few months, now we just need to find you a nice European girl and you really will have better things to do than waste your time here with us.

I know it is late but I have the day off tomorrow, still got some lego to do with DS from his birthday on the 3rd and we pick up a new bike for DD2 from the same birthday.

Spirit, how goes things for you? Is the jaundice fading? Been sending you the vibes from our front porch - seen some good stuff like Sirius and the ISS and Orion when out there to Vibe. :) Anyway, I'm thinking of you and hoping you're feeling better. Hope your docs manage to find out what's causing the problem and can help. Gentle hugs from Liverpool.[/QUOTE
Jaundice still going and underlying cause still to be identified. I have however had a run of 3 qute good days. On Monday a friend spoke to an Endocrinologist i know and he was asking about my stroke recovery, she tld him about myrecent developments and he immdeiately offered to see me, sending me his home and mobile numbers to arrange it. i saw him on tuesaday Morning 9.o clock, he followed up my blood test results and low sodium, gave me an opinion on what he would do next ( stop as many meds as possible and reintroduce them one at a tim until the culprit drug was identified) as he thinks the issue is likely to be drug related. He also knows me at work and .said he does not think I will be fit enough to return successfullyto my job and that I would be frustrated by not being ablr to do it all. today an Occ /health consultant came to see me and said pretty much the same, so far the only person who thinks it a good idea for me to go back is me. I do not have to make a decision yet, have a good pension if it comes to it but will not make a decision until I am over the jaundice. In other news, it is now likely my arm will take a lot longer to rehab so I have to come to terms with that too.

My sister has come to stay for a few days I think OH is relieved as she is very helpful and it gives him a bit of head space from caring duties.Weight has stabilised and I am reintroducing some foods.

Friends bought a house with a pool. They make a decision each summer whether the kids are going to be home long enough to justify the expensive of having it prepared for the season and heated for the Summer. Suggesting it is expensive.

Queensland is scaring me even from this distance. If I lived there I'd be reading this article from the other side of the country as I'd have left: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2960666/Two-fishermen-missing-category-5-Cyclone-Marcia-packing-winds-300km-h-bears-Queensland-coast-residents-brace-giant-waves-flooding-mass-destruction.html

.... issued a dire warning .... catastrophic damage .... most destructive cyclone in the state since 2013 .... Winds of up to 200km per hour are also tearing roofs and doors off buildings ... residents would experience a very 'harrowing and terrifying' couple of hours.

    I hope these places/bits aren't where a NP's relative is.

    I hope these places/bits aren't where a NP's relative is.

Mum spoke to uncle yesterday. They are south of where it was due to and indeed has come ashore. The path of the storm however is still southerly, so they are not out of the woods yet.

Where my uncle lives, the river is expected to flood again. He's uphill from the river, and in a low set Queenslander (a house on low stilts), so should be fine, though the stores and stuff are downhill from him. He has a cafe in his road. Providing it doesn't pass through as a hurricane, rather than being v wet, he will still pop and see his mates at the local cafe just down the road for lunch.

Where my cousin is, it's different again. She's coastal and low lying. So she's at risk from the storm surge and also from any run off from the local river where that comes out to sea. Not out of the woods yet, but they will be very, very, well prepared. They have horses which need shelter, that's the biggest issue. They'll have bought the smaller animals and their boat in, but horses it's harder, they will be in barns but still scary. They tend to get hit after the storm has passed when the water comes downhill. And as last time, the run off water will contain angry poisonous snakes...

Mrs Generali has got plenty of family in and around Brisbane. They'll get a lot of wind and rain although it should be a bit calmer by then.
