It is up, a LOT. I put it on early, then I turned it up more. Not skimping here! No idea what the indoor temperature is though as I've no reliable thermometer.

I do generally camp in one room and just heat that :)

Hmmm... maybe you are coming down with something then. I hope not. But don't go out unless you need to, it is awful due to the winds which are really strong. Am I alone in thinking that it's unusual to have such strong winds and the cold together? In my house when this happens, the cold gets blown in through the air vent in the downstairs loo, rendering that too cold to use (it has no heating other than a fan heater). At least the rest of the house is ok.

Done my monthly accounts, although the mortgage remains as big as ever I now have liquid assets that more than cover it so I think I can officially claim to be mortgage free :)

Having discovered that the electricity/gas bills aren't crazy high/rocketing, I don't skimp when I really feel there's a need to turn it up/on. I'll wait it out as long as possible for most usual situations, but if it actually gets "cold" then I won't skimp myself for the sake of under £1.

My aunt was unbelievably mean with herself. (It was an anxiety thing, and she was worried she would run out of money.)

Her one luxury was that she had an electric blanket. That makes sense. She was heating herself, rather than the whole room? I guess that you would find an electric blanket really worrying?
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Blimey, that's some going michaels! Well done

PN, do you have a hot water bottle? I find that it helps warm me up when I just can't get warm any other way.

    Petrifying :)

I have to balance my comfort and cost in the room I am in, with the need for the rest of the house to remain ventilated and warmed, to prevent structural problems from arising. So I heat the whole house, with the rads turned down individually in each room ..... so it's at tickover in the other rooms and 'warm' (by my standards) in this one.

I have none of your fears PN and have used an electric under blanket in the dim past but I can say that I agree with you the concept is terrifying. The weather is annoying, cold and damp enough to be miserable and cost a fortune in heating but not quite cold enough for there to be snow to look nice and be fun for the kids.

Sitting eating hot pie and chips now. Wonders of freezer and microwave technology :)

The heating's off though - so it'd obviously reached the thermostat setting and shut down. I'll see if this pie/chips warms me up, else I'll smidge the thermometer up a bit more.

It's about time we acknowledged the superpowers of pies. You can't beat a good stick to your ribs pie or pasty to warm you up. Being a veggie, the baked bean and cheese pasties are my cold weather treat.

    Feeling v MSE this weekend.

Went shopping for clothes for work - because I have grown out of all but one of my work skirts, while ALL my work trousers are too worn out and look scruffy, while most of my work jackets look very tired too.

Hadn't realised there would be sales on, but there were. :) Found a pair of trousers reduced from £50 to £25. :) And in another shop got a jacket reduced from £139 to £29. :D Was expecting a jacket with that kind of original price to be dry clean only, but it turns out it's washable, too. :) Have also realised that I can start wearing a jacket I've had for years but have only ever worn with the matching skirt, into which I no longer fit. So am OK on the jacket front now. Will need at least one more skirt and one more pair of trousers, I think, but feeling I am off to a good start. Might try a few more shops during my lunch break tomorrow, and hope the sales are still on. :)

Of course, there are the 4 or 5 skirts in my wardrobe that would be fine for work if I lost some weight, but I don't think that's going to happen in the immediate future, so getting bigger skirts/trousers is the only viable option.

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.
    :)

I am very envious, my suits are looking a bit old so wanted to pick two up in the sales but by the time I made it home my size in trousers were no longer available :(

My tired trouser suit was from M&S but the M&S near me isn't really stocking any women's work clothes ATM. So I ordered a couple more online that looked reasonably similar to the one I've worn out. They didn't fit, though - completely the wrong cut for my shape - so I had to take them back. I have been on the look out for work clothes every time I've walked into a shop that sells clothes for the last 6 months or so and found nothing, so this weekend was a panic attempt to go to some shops that are not places I usually frequent because I couldn't see how I was going to get through the next week at work otherwise. :o

The better half found work trousers for a quid in a charity shop a few weeks ago after being dragged in by her sister.

Glad you found warmth in a good pie PN I now have a steak and kidney pudding craving I must indulge before the end of February.
