My slow cooker did well too :)

It had looked for a while like I was going to be having lentil and aubergine with a hint of curry soup for dinner, but it just got over the line to be counted as daal. As well as slightly less water, next time I'll pay attention to the recipes I took inspiration from (i.e. didn't follow any of them completely) and grate the ginger rather than finely chopping it. Other than that, pretty pleased with the result.

Did you find somewhere nice to live?
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

    Lydia,

I know it would be too much for DD ATM, but there is a thread about the Marie kondo book on old style and I'm about half way through reading it. There are some you tube clips of Marie kondo and her tidying methods and lifestyle attitude which is that everything you keep should bring you joy. I thought it might be interesting for you to see to if sometime later DD might be interested. I'm not buying I to it fully but kondo is very sweet and gentle ( if a bit naive ) and her personification of things and charm might be a gentle reinforcement later?

Just a thought. Kondo also had a fair bit of press coverage last year. I found her interesting then, but daunting. I'm finding her slightly less daunting but a little infuriating ATM.

I am a bit concerned that I have never put pepper in my mash! Of any colour!! I don't put salt in either.. :(

We add milk and butter and sometimes cheese - but then we don't add salt or pepper to anything whilst cooking but do have it available if there are guests who want to add.

I'm 100% with michaels on this one. I prefer mash with butter, milk and sometimes cheese, but no salt or pepper. Obviously it's great for Nikkster to add pepper to mash that she's just cooking for herself, or if she knows her guests all like it, but otherwise I'm a firm believer in keeping seasoning to a minimum because people who like lots can always add more, but those who don't like too much can't take it out.

I have been reading but posting infrequently as I was in quite a lot of pain since christmas eve. In the last week we seem to have solved it. Did not want to post as I was concious others were going through hard times and I did not want to whinge. I will email to agree a date now that things are on the mend.

Oh Spirit! That's very naughty of you. :naughty:

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

Thank you. :) That may be just what I need when she and I have each made progress with our specific difficulties sufficiently to be able to address the issue at that level. I'll come back to you about it in due course. ATM I think I'm a bit too fragile to cope with anything that even you found daunting, and I think I need to learn to crawl before attempting walking, let alone running.

  • I saw some of the 'Scottish night' one, I'd not seen the programme before,, it was cringe-making... The entertainments guy actually said out loud ... "All Scottish people like fried Mars bars!! OMG!!! I wanted to hide behind the sofa, it was so embarrassing! I had to turn it off.

His latest method is to look up guests' houses on Streetview, before they arrive - and you get a good/bad room based on how expensive your house looks.

And, the major thing - there's nothing worse than reading some book by a smug b*st*rd is there :)

No, that really makes one feel like !!!!!!. Best avoided - only read by those who are reading for entertainment, a flick through, a bit of mild interest.

Remember we have a barn full of hoard.:o.

We filled a skip this autumn. :o:o

I think our main problem in sorting it out has gone from emotional to time poverty though.

    Perfect, Lydia. Perfect. :)

Well done, Single Sue! Is this a bit of a bid for freedom as the boys get older? I do hope you get it. You're more than capable.

No mash for Doozergirl. Had a bit of a fail on the diet from this week. Hormones, I think. Still, even being a bit naughty is better than an average week before and my BMI is back within 'normal'.

Edit: may be more naughty now as I've spent the whole day waiting for doozer to come home and have just realised he isn't. Stupendous.
