Maggie How lovely to have the garden sculptures!
They're not really garden sculptures, some are alabaster, so suspect won't take frost, but I guess we can protect over winter in shed here or the lottie one for anything we take to lottie. There's a carved wooden panel we intended to get today, but weather so strange this morning plus OH not feeling too good, so we'll go tomorrow instead. Panel is of a number of people holding hands, it has a paper on the back explaining it, but I was a bit overcome by everything on Thursday, so didn't really take it in.
Quite a large alabaster seagull (about 18" across wings, and 12" tall), must fetch its base as not sure yet if we'll need it or not. Depends where in garden we put it.... Not thought about it all yet as it was all a bit last minute and sudden. Then there's a sleeping duck in I think maybe soapstone, very dark olive greeny brown, that is on a wooden plinth like a nest - we'll get some linseed oil for the plinth, and also for the carved panel. We think both the seagull and duck were by OH's Aunt.
Wire dragonfly will join our giant metal spider from Chelsea Flower Show in our front porch. Then there's a wire dragon too, which not sure if garden or lottie. These are things made by MiL and OH's aunt that nobody else in family wants, destined for landfill. So we thought much better to let the landfill be here where they will be enjoyed as they slowly decay. Not sure quite what to do with the large alabaster dragon MiL carved! OH didn't want to bring it home, but when we got home and I started to think about putting things in the garden he got keener. :T
There's some small sculpts too, a plaque of toadstools, an angel fish, can't remember the rest. We might give the angel fish to our next door neighbours at the lottie for their pond.
Will take photos when get a chance, prob won't be till into springtime though, as don't want to site stuff outside in worst of the winter!0 -
I have been reading but posting infrequently as I was in quite a lot of pain since christmas eve. In the last week we seem to have solved it. Did not want to post as I was concious others were going through hard times and I did not want to whinge. I will email to agree a date now that things are on the mend.
Dear one, we have enough concern to go round everyone.0 -

Sorry you been in pain again, Spirit. But very glad to hear that it is now solved. Hope it stays that way for you. As to not posting cos of others having difficult times, we're all in this together ( didn't mean to sound like Cameron, I *really* mean it!), I'm sure we all have enough empathy, hope and support to go round. Dog grill in. Feels very grown up to have such a thing. Dog dog and kiwi used to wear seat belts.
I need another throw to go on the parcel shelf if we keep that in the car, it might be we do, and that kiwi will sit on it like a bunk bed. If not we'll take it out.
While out we managed to but two lamps fir liked and I'm now looking for lamp shades. This is progress. I still haven't bought a lampshade for the lamp I bought years ago
For the sitting room. It has a shade but I don't like it.0 -
I realise now that my mash is totally boring!
lir, I have had LED downlighters put in every room except the bedrooms because I can never find light fittings or shades that I really like, I end up with something that 'will do' I just hate things dangling from the ceiling, gathering dust!0 -

BHS can be good for lampshades. Got 2 for bedside lamps that would have cost about twice as much at John Lewis. Which was where we got the lamps from in sale, but was horrified at cost of shades! :rotfl: Stock seems to vary and change, so even if nothing there now might be worth looking again in a couple of months.0 -
Having mash tonight, but doing it with garlic infused olive oil. Love it.
Got some house viewings tomorrow nightExciting! I'll be a lot less stressed and a lot happier once I've got somewhere definite to live and had confirmation about my job references!
