My tax return will be easy.... tot up the turnover, which will be well under half of the tax free band.... then deduct expenses easy to track down, because whether it comes in at £2k, £3k or £4k in the end is pretty irrelevant. It's not like I'm trying to knock £40k down to £20k or anything! Just entering turnover without any expenses would be good enough to submit a return.

I've given my accountant a huge box of petrol receipts, invoices and bank statements to sort through.

We're bringing into place a system for staff to scan them onto the system with amounts, to have it reimbursed as expenses at the end of the month, which hopefully will mean it can all be tallied up electronically, before spitting out the results to put on the paperwork. It should be ready by February, and I can't wait!

You'll be so popular - depending when exactly they were handed over...
January is certainly my busiest month, with all the last minute tax returns to be processed. Also my best month financially though!

I've downloaded Receipt Bank. I've only photographed one receipt but it looks really handy. There is nothing worse than entering by hand. Take the picture, send it for processing and then upload it into accounts package.

I do have everything filed, I just need to go through and check
What has already been reconciled against the bank statement.

I love my accounting software, Xero. It's so friendly and easy to use. It seems to have a bit of its own intuition.

Makes it easy. I tell my accountant that I love her, regularly.

This might be of interest to dog lovers amongst us. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-27690167

The British have a reputation for being a nation of dog lovers. But what is the British Isles' favourite pooch? And does your postcode play a role in which puppy you pick? The BBC analysed 10 years of microchipping data to find out.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

I do find our reputation as dog lovers funny compared to so much of Europe, where, you know...a dog is welcome at places and not left at home alone so much.

I love the bit about there being loads of greyhounds around Halifax because there's a huge rescue centre near there. I really like things like that, strange connections.

There's that theory (which I strongly doubt) that a cruise missile is the width it is so it can fit on a railway truck which is the width it is ultimately based on the length of an axel on a Roman chariot.

Its not that odd. Unusual dogs often get bought near breeders because people see them being walked and think, ooooooh, what's that, and ask. Often its surprising that people won't drive that far for their dog. I was lucky that kiwi was withing two and a half hours from home IMO. When I started looking I was pretty sure I'd be going to north of England ( but could be in Europe somewhere).

Health is always my prime concern, and in kiwi I was looking for a rare combination of working and show lines. I loved a particular other dog from his kennels and contacted the breeder for a similar line crossing though liked everything I'd seen from that kennels. Almost wish I'd bought two now as she died shortly afterwards. :o. There was a gorgeous girl in the litter she liked too but I couldn't have a girl and she sqid that she did n't think she'd be as good as kiwi anyway. I've seen that girl grown up, and you know, the breeder was right, the girl is a sweety, but not a patch on kiwi ( who has faults but the main one is he carries his tail too high, that's something I can live with....my dog is too happy. :D.) The people who bought her said if they'd seen the father they wouldn't have bought her....and I said...why didn't you see the pictures of the father? Look into him? He's a fabulous dog fwiw, but very old fashioned not modern type. Why I liked him!

At Christmas we took them to roman city near here and we were asked about him constantly, Ambassador for the breed. :D Its one of the things that makes me regret we are not more European, that more shops don't invite you in ( the one that did made sales:D). You can sit and eat outside, which is fine.

I would be popular, but we give a box of new ones each month for sorting, so it's spread throughout the year :)

If I walk the pooch to the hospital or doctor and tie her up outside, that will usually be for 30-60 minutes. Almost every time, somebody gets upset by that. One person told me that the mutt could have been stolen. :rotfl::rotfl:

Just the other day, as we were simply walking along, a chap grabbed the mutt and read our phone number off her collar. I was no more than a metre or two away throughout this process. He then asked me to hold her whilst he whipped his mobile phone out and dialled our number.

I managed to dissuade an English colleague (recently arrived) at work over here from calling the RSPCA because her next door neighbour kept her dog outside AND DIDN'T EVEN LET IT IN WHEN IT RAINED QUITE HARD.

It took quite a lot of convincing that this is how dogs are kept in Aus for her to get it. I think the clincher was when I told her that Mrs Generali's Grandma's dog is only allowed inside when there's a cyclone and even then she can only go into the laundry unless it's a Cat 5 cyclone at which point she can keep Grandma company in the loungeroom.
