I had my now biannual (I thought I should upgrade from annual now I'm trying to hold down a grown-up job) haircut a couple of weeks ago. I just asked for my usual (take a couple of inches off the ends to tidy it up), and a few longish layers (again, I'm pretending to be grown up). Hairdresser was keen to shape the front a bit, so I let her. Not sure whether I prefer it or not. But I gave it a go :)

Oh, me too. But I've managed to hit the financial goals I set myself for the year (£x off the mortgage and my variation on the 'save £y in 2014' theme), and NONE of the non-financial aims. Not one.

I know how I met my financial aims (some self-discipline, well defined goals, sticking with it when I'm not on course/ have a bad month) so I need to work out how to apply that to other things (e.g. lose some weight).

Yup. I've selected a bottle of fizzy pink plonk which I [STRIKE]rescued from my wine cellar[/STRIKE] found in my bedroom at my parents'. And I'm pretty sure it will be the Hootenanny (I'm not expecting to be overwhelmed by the choice of things to watch).
The Hootenanny's recorded on an evening about three weeks ahead. In future, a few of the NPs would probably be in travelling distance if they wanted to attend; you have to enter a random draw before 1st December via the bbc tickets website. They will only let you have one or two tickets per address.
It's a standing audience. We've been to a couple of recording evenings already so didn't bother for the Hootenanny. You get to see a huge range of live acts close up for free. I'd recommend it to anybody who wants an unusual night out.

    I did that once.

Couldn't say I enjoyed the experience.

  • Posh Alert!!!!
    :)

Learning to fly is one; in Texas is another; in 1980, when flying/going to the US was rarer is another.

Even posher, the Company I worked for paid for it!
  • Well I've finally got my boiler fixed, so I'll be able to have a warm New Year.:j

When I deliberated (on Boxing day) how to get it fixed, I really didn't have a clue! The local bloke who usually services it, wasn't around until the New Year, and having a boiler over 10 years old he may not have had parts needed. I thought I'd try British Gas, as I knew they'd let me know their charges, and I didn't want to get ripped off by some emergency call out service, so I went with this.

    http://www.britishgas.co.uk/content/britishgas/products-and-services/boilers-and-central-heating/boiler-repairs/one-off-boiler-repair.html#map-area

Although the cost will be somewhere in the region of £500, the parts replaced, which are included in the deal, come to somewhere in the region of £400. I suppose they're winners and losers on this deal, looks like I'm a winner!

    Chuffed :D

I've managed it to a temporary and limited extent before. But I need to do better this time. Whether or not I end up enjoying the experience, I'm hoping that it will lead to me being more likely to go out and have more enjoyable experiences in general :)

Finally got home from London yesterday morning. We decided to ring the changes, so stopped off at Norton Canes Days Inn overnight. OH had all of 3 days symptom free of his cough before it started up again, so DD1 took him to the nearest drop in centre on Saturday, they gave him more of the same antibiotics. Except these were made in Essex and the ones he had in Liverpool were made in Romania. We are both knackered as he's snoring all the time, which wakes me up, so then I wake him up as I can't get back to sleep when he's snoring. <roll eyes smiley> I watched part of loads of stuff on the TV when woken last night... :rotfl: Some of one of the Pirates of the Caribbean films, but missed the start. Finished a book I started just before Xmas. Most of Restoration Man, which was interesting, about a bloke who did up an ice house by a Scottish Loch on the West Coast. Forget the rest! :rotfl:

We just lazed in bed this morning, and watched Back to the Future. Up now, and OH has gone to do a bit of shopping. I had to get up as was desperate for a smoke - the e-ciggies are useful, but not the same as the real thing. :o

Doozergirl, so sorry to hear you have bronchitis, hope it clears soon, and you're able to enjoy New Year in whatever way makes you happy.

Pastures, did you make a decision on the sofa yet? I wondered if the teal one might go quite well with your curtains? Of course it's a bit darker than the others you mention. Good luck with the decision making anyway!

Hope you found some snow Generali, and have fun at your friends place with your family.

LiR, hope you are over that allergy thing OK. Assume you must be since you've been to body worker. Any idea what the problem ingredient might have been? Apparently all takeaways and restaurants are supposed to list ingredients now in case of allergies in their clientelle.

Just in case I don't have the time later I'd like to wish all Nice People a Happy and Prosperous 2015.

Hugs from Liverpool! :) (though we had a nice time in Herne Hill it's still nice to be home! :j )

    Me? Make a decision? No.
Well - the curtains... having taken weeks to decide, once hung, I decided they were the wrong colour :) They're too wishy washy and the whiter area's too "natural" aka unbleached cotton/linen, so bleurgh.

At some point, the curtains might get replaced and these ones flogged off on ebay :) (Although I think they're a bit heavy to be posting, so would have to think that through)

    Catching up a bit.

All in all 2014 was not a bad year, i would not have chosen the stroke, but the response from friends and family has been a joy.
My brother has been off drugs for a year after a 30 year addiction, our dd has returned from her trip with more confidence and has shown what a loving and capable woman she has grow into through her actions towards her dad and I. I lost a friend but he wanted to go Whilst other bereaved friends and family found new happiness.there has been a good sprinkling of new babies. I am 18lbs lighter. Have a terrible hair cut( think a style free bob as worn by someone who lives in an institution).

In 2015 I want to complete my recovery. decide on whether to retire or not, build a new post retirement approach to life, where I am not so full on, do more for others and make time for my lovely family. I want to keep the weight off and be more MSE as I will soon reduce to half pay and will still be paying for rehab.
I want to get my licence back and adpt my car or get another if needed. This has been a net outflow year and so will next year both years should have increased savings.. Our mortgage will be paid off in 2015.
tonight we are staying in, I will be asleep t midnight. we usually do something, but no ritual. We are going to sils tomorrow so I could not have a late night. We may go out for an early supper with dd if she is back from doing horses in time.
