I had my hair trimmed today, first time in goodness knows how long (got to be at least 3 or 4 years). Josh also had his trimmed and a strip of colour put in, £30 for the pair of us.

I was also very rudely awoken this morning by my sister in law asking if I could take my brother to an interview (winter, so not much gardening can be done). They had lent their car to their neighbour so she could get to work, only for the prospective employer to ring out of the blue asking if he could come for an interview within the hour.

I duly took him...and he got the job.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

Me too. Not expecting it to happen, though. It hasn't happened for the last 3 years that I've hoped it would, and there's not really any reason for 2015 to be any different.

Got my blood tests back. B12 level has not dropped back to the low levels of 6 months ago, so don't need another round of injections. :) Folate levels are low, though, which can be linked with fatigue etc. GP advises taking a supplement. Eventually managed to find some in Boots that were small tablets of just folic acid rather than horse-pill-size things containing pregnancy multi-everything. (I am not good at swallowing large things.) Hoping nobody spots them in my bathroom and starts a rumour that I'm pregnant - that would really cause consternation!! :rotfl:

2014 has been pretty awful. Loneliness, heart break, unemployment... The worst thing is my lack of friends around here. Before this year, even when everything else has been falling apart I've always had a good group of friends around, but now I don't. I think that's the worst thing.

I'm determined for 2015 to be better :)

Sending hugs, and hoping for 2015 to be a huge improvement. hugging.gif

Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

Edit: I appreciate the irony that I will see in this new year sat at home on my own :) But I'm sure I'll have a nice enough evening.

A bottle of plonk and Hootenany (sp?) sounds perfect.

We have friends over. I'm not even sure how it happened. It will be nice but I've missed Jools for 3 of the last 4 and it's perfect for me. New Year is for a bit of reflection, IMO.

Thanks Lydia :) I'm feeling up for 2015.

As much as I complain about 2014, I think I've grown a huge amount as a person. The whole thing with Lili especially, but also in terms of my professional life. A lot of home truths that I'm coming to terms with as well as strengths I didn't realise I had.

As soon as I can get moved and get started on this job I'll be fine I think. Haven't totally decided on living arrangements yet; dealing with that in the new year :)

when they were good - not worth the fare now

There are other things to do in and around Tampa :) and if you time it right you could also catch a ballgame at the worst baseball stadium in the history of baseball stadiums, the Thunderdome (once the politics are out of the way the Rays will have a new ballpark on the waterfront in Tampa by 2020) or catch the Lightning at the Ice Palace.................but any game at RJS is worth a trip :T................Mike Evans will be even more of a revelation next year in his sophomore season with a decent QB and OC..............them canons will be blasting away, and if we draft Jameis Winston the papers will be full of interesting storys (P.S. Marcus Mariota will not be a success in the NFL)

I once flew with BA to NYC for a weekend in October 1990 and there were only just over 50 people on the 747. They moved all the Club passengers to 1st, and all the Economy pax to Club to make it easier to look after, but quite a few moved back into Economy so they could lie flat out on the 4 seats and get some peace and quiet (not me......the food n booze was too tempting)

The idea of having a gun accessible to a 2 year old is asking for trouble.

Having a concealed weapon loaded and ready to fire whilst shopping in WalMart is hard to understand.

Most automatic handguns do not have a safety catch, but are armed by loading the magazine, and cocking by pulling back on the latch (slide), which puts a bullet in position ready to fire. Doing that takes seconds, so why the gun would need to be carried like that is beyond comprehension.

I know a lot of American friends who wouldn't dream of leaving the house without their "weapon" and most carry it in their glove compartment when driving, but I can't imagine any of them having it ready for immediate firing.

I learnt to Fly in Texas in 1980. I once asked my Flying Instructor if he carried a gun? Bit of a silly question really, he had eight! Carried two in the car, but told me he'd only pointed it once with the intention of shooting someone

It's day two of the Central heating engineer. He didn't have the part needed, so someone else is coming to fix it, and hopefully I'll have some heating for the New Year. I'm expecting a nasty bill :(

Or she could have kept her gun better secured? People aren't routinely being shot accidentally by their kids, just as many of the terrible accidents that happen here are rare occurrences....

I know I have told this story before here, but there is a reaction that the time in Venice The boss and I were walking behind some Brits who suddenly started realising they hadn't seen any kids yet ( it was a school day in the morning) and that really all that open water shouldn't be allowed ( er.....its Venice) and how many kids drowned there a year.

Outside towns in uk a surprising number of people have guns of some sort. The type and laws of how they are kept is VERY very different to the states indeed, I agree. And also, terrible accidents do happen.

We sadly now see the opposite here where 18 year olds don't know how to use a train and are scared to try new things because they have experienced so few risks and responsibilities through youth in many households. No tree climbing, no chores, few sports or organised activities.

I'm not saying give kids guns. I am saying leave US to have this debate its self, its not as if its not having it. I don't say it lightly, I've spent time in not nice parts of southern us ( I remember a couple of drive by shootings in Florida, on the street and one at a gas station for example) But I've felt no less safe than in parts of London.

I feel we have some splinters in out own eye to remove too personally.

I agree, it's something Americans need to decide for themselves. Piers Morgan's experiences on CNN show what Americans think of Brits telling them what to do.

A lot of people in the UK (not suggesting the NP) don't realise that the genie is well and truly out of the bottle in the USA and a solution there will never be the same as what we have here, and there are good reasons that it can't be: for example I don't need to worry about wild hogs or bears in the not so wilds of Hertfordshire.

If something is ever agreed in the US, I think it will involve a ban on guns for felons, the mentally ill; and in turn on high-capacity assault rifles and inappropriate bullets such as armour piercing. It will never stop people owning handguns or rifles to hunt or for their own protection. The other thing is that gun laws are written on a state by state basis, so if you have strong laws in your state you can pop to the state next door. The way legislation is written on a state by state basis is another big difference when comparing the legal framework to here.

I don't think any law change would stop what happened in Walmart happening.
