You have really helped me over this year in the time since I started posting here. Thank you all.
Well, except me - I'm useless and just here to make up the numbers ... and remind people that a pie, chips, chocolate, milkshake and crisps DO cover all the essential food groups

Not at all! Everybody contributes in this virtual community, whether they realise it or not!
Anyhoo, I'd better wish everybody a Happy Hogmanay whether you're saying farewll to a great year or good riddance to a rubbish one. The next one will be better.:beer:There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -

You, my dear friend, are one of the nicest of nice people, one of the key units in our group.0 -

Absolute nonsense my wonderful friend.
But I agree with the other bit, that's what we're here for. Each and every one of us gives and takes.0 -
Awww - but I just turn up and sit and moanlostinrates wrote: »You, my dear friend, are one of the nicest of nice people, one of the key units in our group.
That's about it.
Aww. Thank you. You must be OK too ... you're the only house-guest I've had dossing down on the carpet in the room without curtains or a lampshade to date.Absolute nonsense my wonderful friend.

I agree with the others. You're important here. You listen, you care, you find things online for people, you set a magnificent example of persevering despite considerable disadvantages, you alert us to things we might want to be watching if we knew they were on TV, you warn us when we're getting posh without realising it, you contribute interestingly to virtual conversation....
Been watching Star Trek (original series) with DD and am now being asked to watch Star Trek (Enterprise) with DS.
Had my dad here overnight last night. He was supposed to be just dropping by on his way back from my brother's, to bring us the coats that we left behind when we came home the day before. However, with the sun in his eyes, salty water from snow and gritting spraying up from the road and a broken tube meaning that his windscreen wash squirter wasn't working, and driving alone with no satnav, he went the wrong way on several occasions and took hours to get this far, so decided to stay here rather than arrive home v late and tired to a freezing cold house last night. He got home safely today, I'm glad to say.
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

And I would do it again. I'd probably never have considered doing something like that before, except for a very very close friend. But the friend from work who was buying for the first time at the same time as me popped by on my first night here, and I'll never forget that small gesture. (I think we did bond lot through that experience, I now have her keys as she's away visiting family).
I had so so much fun that weekend. My hag stone is still on my mantelpiece to remind me that our weekend really did happen
Edit: anyhow, the amount I share on here, I think you guys (mustn't forget the lurkers...) count as very, very close friends!0 -

Awww
He must have felt alone, sad and small before he arrived at yours. I'm glad he wasn't so pig-headed he insisted on completing his journey like so many people would do.0 -
When it comes to balancing work, food and beach trips, it's always a shame when one didn't fit in an ice-cream too

One day in the future, somebody posh will visit your house and ask about your hag stone - and you'll feel a right lemon explaining it away

I'm sure I'll be able to make another trip to balance things out - if you insist
(or even if you don't!)
I'm sure no-one posh will visit my home. But if they did I'd explain it with a smile and tell them about the weekend I helped my friend move out of a dark, horrible flat into their lovely new home
