I put a gilet on, but cannot mnage to get a coat on so it was bit nippy.

You need a big, full length "I don't care what I look like, I'm warm" sleeveless maxi cloak :)

    Excellent! Well done!

I suspect that there's scope for a small business doing this for other people.

Yes please ... my spare room! It would mean I can get to the drying rack and the Christmas presents on the spare bed without tripping over something ... :o

Sending best wishes to silver jr. I would send hugs, but he'd probably recoil in horror and the poor boy has had enough on his plate for one day.

I'm a bit confused as to what the business offering is. You know it needs doing, you're able .... so why'd you part with cash for somebody to come and help?

You sound like my son. I say "you're fine, stop fussing." He says, "I think the doctor knows more than you."

Even now, I say "I wouldn't call this operation essential, you should think carefully whether you want it. Why have a GA if you don't need to?" He says, "if the doctor is prepared to operate, why wouldn't I have it done?"

The problem is only causing a minor niggle at odd times. Not going to get worse. I've been told I can't post details.

Cos the doctor gets paid to operate, perhaps. I had to seriously think about getting my knee cartilage 'trimmed'. The surgeon was very keen to operate because BUPA were paying for it. BUPA were much less keen and kept trying to persuade me to think about non surgical remedies instead. In the end I wanted the surgery to explore whether my ACL needed reconstruction as well but I doubt that the cartilage repair was really that necessary and expect it could have been managed without surgery. It worked out ok in the end but there were several months were I wondered whether it would ever get better than its pre-operative state.

I doubt a knee surgeon would ever recommend a frivolous operation but I am sure that a knee surgeon would be convinced that surgery was the only viable option in circumstances where e.g. A physiotherapist would not necessarily agree...

If you saw my piles of paperwork you'd understand, and I'd trust you to do it. Unfortunately there isn't anyone here I'd trust to do it. Well, if my recently retired accountant offered such a service I'd trust him. But meanwhile I just have to look at the piles of paper and wish I'd got the energy and time. Shrug. Perhaps when old home sells (assuming it ever does) I'll buy in some help to get through some stuff. Suspect OH wouldn't begrudge the cost as it's driving him crazy too. General clutter stuff I'm talking here. PN, what I was talking about to you at start of this paragraph was the paperwork, which is different.

Yesterday went to doctor for appt arranged about 2 weeks ago. He wasn't there, but managed to get appt for today. This was to discuss blood tests from ages ago, as nurse is only allowed to discuss cholesterol results.

He was very nice, and didn't try force statins on me, and even joked about diet - "you can end up eating cardboard and porridge all the time"... My thoughts totally! :rotfl: Trying diet to get "bad" cholesterol down, but there are limits, and I do like a breakfast fry up, we try restrict that to couple of times a month now. :( But we've learned to love oily fish with various sauces, and it's nice to have smoked salmon for breakfasts once in a while too.

Anyway, OH has had horrid cough for ages now, receptionist suggested he go to walk in centre as earliest appt was 30 Dec. So he asked doc for advice at end of my consult. Doc listened to his chest, and prescribed antibiotics. What a star! :) I can't imagine that happening at most surgeries. I guess this is why we're still sticking with them, though we will have to move eventually I'm afraid because of practice boundary. Sigh.

I've got to have more blood tests - B12 and repeat full blood count. We'll leave it till after New Year (doc said that's fine). But got new scrip for Vit D which saves a few bob. :money: While my levels adequate currently (after 2 years of supplements) I'm over 65, I don't get out the house much, and even when I do I cover up as my Dad had probs with solar keratosis, so I'm paranoid about sitting in the sun longer than about 5 minutes. Keeping Vit D levels adequate is money saving for NHS too, as means less likely to develop osteoporosis.

Well, so long as it's a bacterial infection!

Hope they do the trick, and that your blood tests go to plan when you get them done.

Sounds like good news overall ukmaggie.

For oily fish, those farmed trout can be nice especially if you bake them in foil with a splash of white wine and a little thyme or dill.

Two great ways to improve your diet:

    1. Have a small bowl of salad as a starter before your mains
    2. Have a handful of whatever berries are cheap after each meal

That's my plan for 2015. Berries are quite aggressively priced in Aus so I might have to have frozen rather than fresh.
