Second night in a row kiwi slept in his bed without creeping up on ours through the night.
I think so long as he knows he's going to get a cuddle and the bed is soft and warm we might have cracked that little disagreement.
Now to explain the next one..0 -
Locally ks2 will be used for setting maths in y7 first year of secondary. Whilst changing set is possible I think it matters that dd1 is in the top half of sets so she, her teachers and her classmates are those who think success in maths is important not those who think it is uncool. I certainly don't want her to be pressured to work at a level above what she can do but it is a matter of getting the learning psychology right so that she thinks maths is something she can do not something that is hard/boring/only for geeks.
Edit: other reason for wanting some level specific books is because we are missing a week of school.
Thanks for explaining. I was wondering why it mattered. Is it just the ks2 maths result that matters? No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

Doglet is NOT allowed to sit on our furniture. She knows this, and she would not dream of sitting on a chair if I am in the room. However, when I am not in the room .... So, most items of furniture now have something hard and uncomfortable left on them. The electrical extension lead is now permanently stored on a chair, for example. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

As Josh was statemented, he was reduced to the lowest denominator when starting high school (for some reason, being statemented meant that a student was mentally deficient, something that really bugged me). Despite this, Josh ignored everyone else (sometimes Aspergers is very handy), proved his worth and ended up getting good grades in both English and Maths, with maths being passed early on in year 11...oh and not forgetting the other 8 results too but ignoring Philosophy where the result was a little, er, not very good :rotfl:
Youngest embraced his geekness, still does. He sees it as a badge of honour...and he too was placed in all the lowest sets initially, partly because of his non grades in his SATS but mostly because of his statement.
With all my boys, I have given them the confidence to be different, that it is cool to be different, be that being a geek or because of their difficulties, for youngest, the girls think that is the upmost of coolness and are attracted to him...not that he knows quite what to do with that!
Just wish I could teach myself the same lesson, I am the most unconfident person you could meet!We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -

That's a bit different.
I'll ask me mum. She'll know.0 -

Ah. Round here there are frequently rumours that the KS2 levels will be used for setting, but actually the secondary schools ignore the levels and do maths sets based on a test that kids do after having been taught in mixed ability groups for a couple of weeks at the very beginning of Y7. If the KS2 levels actually are used for setting where you are, then that's different.
Even so, the bit I've bolded seems to me to be the most important point. I spent a year teaching maths, and the rest of my career teaching physics (with obvious mathematical content) and I've seen time and time again how important it is for young people to avoid getting stuck in a self-fulfilling "I can't do maths" mindset. Hence my earlier comments about helping kids with their core subjects.
If she will be missing a week of school, your best bet is to ask the teacher to tell you what maths topics they will be doing while she is away, so you can focus on those things during that week. For general maths support, ask DD what she has been doing in maths that week, look at her maths homework, and help her with that topic.
If maths is her main sticking point, then practising past questions with her is definitely the most effective strategy (not just my opinion - there's large scale research to back that up), as long as you check you're not using papers the teachers will want to use for "unseen" practice in school.Doglet is NOT allowed to sit on our furniture. Avatar Dog was the same. It always seemed to me as though he thought that being on the furniture in our presence was dominance thing - so that as long as he was submissive by getting off it as soon as we showed up, then he wasn't doing anything wrong. But my dog psychology may be way off - we need lir to tell us how dogs really see these things.
In his later years he started to believe that it was OK for him to be on the sofa not only when we were out (as long as he got off when we came back), but during the night once we'd gone upstairs to bed. I remember occasions when I went downstairs to fetch something, and found him on the sofa, with his head down, ears flattened and tail thumping, but not actually getting off - as if to say "Night time rules apply now, don't they, because you've gone upstairs and left me to sleep down here, so you're not going to turf me off the sofa, are you? Please? Really? Please?"Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

Ah, bless her, she's mastered the art of taking stuff off the chair and putting it back in the same place, without you knowing.:D
I've no idea about dog psychology; we are collectively a pack, where I go, they go. I sit on furniture, they do:o, but I've never asked them not to. Bed wise, only Ruby kips there, the rest sleep on the floor through choice.lostinrates wrote: »He smiles when he is happy.
Being on a white fake fur throw on my bed makes him happy.
I am in love, quite deeply. My wallpaper on the phone is just Ruby's muzzle area with a smile - she lies on her back and relaxes and then the smile starts.0 -

I've no time to be a hypochondriac.... there's nobody listening/caring if I tried it - and it doesn't get the pies bought and reheated.0
