I think the time to stop using eBay to sell stuff was when sellers stopped being able to leave feedback for buyers.

I know. You are right. But we have upgraded our phones and had these very decent iphones sitting here that we can't use - even as spares the SIM cards are the wrong size. So no use to us. I wouldn't have bothered if it wasn't for a decent amount that (I thought) would make it worth the hassle.

The other went fine. They won the auction paid, within the hour and I posted yesterday. Deal done.

DD's boyfriend is a translator and is also a native Italian in case you need any more help (although lir and fir have done it all). DD is brushing up on her Italian at language classes so she can communicate better with boyfriend's family.
Reason for the poor Italian could depend on the region the buyer is from and the slang/idioms used - northern and southern Italians don't all speak the same!

Even within northern areas ...you don't have to go south.... I have a friend who lives near Modena and I really struggled to understand the locals, embarrassingly so. Fir struggles with real Venetian accent, where as I just .....got it. Yes, could be phrasing, idioms , or text speak, poor education or all sorts......or poor translator skill! :)

Where's dd's bf from? Fir is Tuscan. The big Tuscan joke is you have to say...una hohahola hon hanucia Horta Horta' ( for the Hs reads sort of throaty rasp. That's how Tuscans say hard Cs. So that's a cocacola with a short, short straw. Our Milanese friends think its hilarious when I say that. I feel like a performing monkey, they make me do it over and over. Then hug me and tell fir to see how he would have corrupted me and say its ok because they made me properly northern. Lol. ( I'm not. There next favourite part piece is I say the equivalent of 'eeny meeny miney mo' with eith no discern able English accent which they think is incredible, or a very pronounced English accent which has them rolling on the floor with laughing'. ( one after the other ) When we go to apperitivo they make me do that and it gets wholebars laughing....they think I'm taking the piddle out of the English I think. I'm just playing with the sound of it cos its fun. Its no great talent and I don't find it particularly entertaining. No more than I would anyone saying twinkle twinkle little star in a funny accent. But they like it. I aim to please.

Been trimming my bush today it was a bit thick and the electric trimmer gave up the ghost. Had to get out the saw and clippers in the end to lop off a good 4-5ft worth of growth. I fear I have overdone it now so resting in bed.

LIR how much time have you spent in Italy? We went to Sicily for our honeymoon it was such a nice place, good food, wine and people. The good weather tends to make me feel a lot better too. Would love to go again!

So, I'll start with some cheery banter: I have my Xmas tree up and lights on :)

I've got my advent calendar up and put chocolates in the pockets

One of those lighting arrangements where you have 7 candle-like lights in an inverted 'V' wood shape is lit in the front window. I love sparkly lights and need to sort out the spare room so I can get to the window to put those up too.

Tree etc will wait a week or two though.

My lovely neighbours continue to help us. This afternoon next door neighbour called in and invited me round for tea, as she was leaving another neighbour arrived with a beef and red wine casserole for us.

three months in and the continued support is heartening.

Um, less time than an Italian spends in me I guess. ;)

I haven't been into the south at all. No where, below.....um...Rome probably. Fir had an office in Rome.

We lived in Milan for a while ( year ish) , then I came back for health reasons. He stayed on for another year (.?) fir and I speak pigeon at home but not when RP is here because I think its rude in front of others. RP speaks some Italian but not a huge amount. I spent quite a bit of time in Venice ( a member of family has a palazzo there so if we can make travel make sense and I can suffer hospitality of others ...I prefer to be I dependant, we could be holidaying there still) because its an easy and quick train journey, then I had my friend near Modena and bologna, we went somewhere most weeks...just the cats, no house to do up, no garden....:) . The Italian office was very social too, and there was often some thing going on at someone's mountain house or beach home or something, and the office kept a box at la scala, and went to Verona as a group, film festivals etc. it was really enjoyable, plus not sure, for, example, I would have gone to Swiss film festivals not as part of the group ( films were shocking, but opportunity to go was good, and to look around and relax and socialise fun)

We once got an 'interactive' doggy toy similar to this one

Doggy is supposed to move the sliders to uncover the treat. Our westie didn't really get along with it, he just sniffed it, then sat down and started whining until one of us pushed the slider hiding the treat.
Hey ho, at least I got some mental stimulation out of it. :)

Well I just about made it through the afternoon. Have retreated back to the hotel and had a big cry. Feeling rather sorry for myself. Need to snap out of it and get on with some work.
