I have to agree with Sue and PN here. Trying to get people to close doors is pretty much impossible, and in many ways might be harder on SS with physical demands of letting them in, because you can bet they'll not put latch on or what ever.

Earlier in the week I suggested just trying to keep sitting room warm, and SS said that's the room he was mainly in and out of, so I would then, had I been more on the ball, suggested one of the bedrooms so that Sue or one lucky boy, had a warm room that evening to study in, or the kitchen, if its a room the boys can do home work in.

The main problem now is that the house, the fabric of the house, is cold, and I e what ever little heating is provided until big guns come in you just sort of warm the air in the house, so keeping that air in becomes quite important. That's why things like hot water bottles /heat in bed or where you sit are sort of more valuable, because they warm you in a different way.

We're actually quite adept at doing this as the heating has been tempermental over the last few years, I think yesterday I was a bit moany because I had got over cold and was stressed from the weekend....today I am much more clear headed and positive.

I was lovely and snug in bed overnight, I have a nice 13.5 tog quilt and I put one of my cuddly fleece throws over to get me warmed up more. Bit brass monkeys first thing this morning when I got up but the trick there is to get clothes on as soon as you get out of bed.

Me and now ex hubby survived for 2 years in a flat with no central heating, only 2 working gas fires and drafty single glazed sash windows, we'd often wake in the winter to find ice on the inside of the windows and we got used to wearing full clothes plus hats and gloves to bed! The flat was massive too, front room alone was 26ft by 20ft (or something like that anyway, our 8 foot sofa looked tiny in there), you could probably fit my current house twice or maybe more times into that flat.

Hmm, think my problem is I have become soft in my old age :rotfl:
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

When I was a kid I used to climb into the airing cupboard to get dressed. The airing cupboard wasn't huge, I was tiny!

I really feel for you Sue, we had our central heating pipework changed in the Summer and it was a messy and long job and that was just the downstairs.

    Interesting statistic from The Economist:

Quite pertinent given that the US police seem to be trying to up that number considerably in the next few weeks.

My gift free existence is so much simpler :)
I might receive one card this year, but I expect that's it.

I buy clothes for a friends twins and about 30 cards but that's it, so not too far behind you;)

A very belated birthday wish to silvercar.

So, the total will be about 450 for the year? If your prediction of an increase is borne out.

That means that about one in sixty of us gun related deaths will be at the hands of the police.
There are 780,000 police in the us, so about one in fifty of them will on average expect to kill someone in their entire working lifetime.

It's interesting that you can put whatever spin you like on these statistics. You can conclude that us police are blood crazed maniacs, or you can conclude the exact opposite.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

    Thank you all!

It's late, shouldn't we all be in bed? :naughty:

Was about to post how I love those frosty crispy nights, but hearing Sue's troubles, I hope it turns and stays mild now! Happy to chip in.

Not allowed. I have to buy something for the house - doesn't have to come from JL necessarily.

Present from OH is totally separate, free choice there.

At this point I would return the gift to the giveror donate it to a raffle, rather than be compelled to add to the household clutter to satisfy the givers requiremnts. you posted that they exchange gifts you give without a fuss being made.

the pressie from OH suggestion.....a handbag.

And around 70 us police officers are killed on duty each year, so you can see why they might be a touch jittery.
