    No.

Thinking of maybe hiring one for a month.

Current garage have a couple of cars I'm not keen on a bit like ours but not too expensive. Fir seems keen.

I'm suggesting we get his car fixed ( sigh) and buy something smaller and cheaper and admit our needs are better met by two cars. After all, the main need for a bigger day to day car is big dog, and she isn't going to be here. I can pop her in RP's car till the end and vacuum it each time.

This means I have something zippy I can enjoy driving while I can still drive and the defender issue is also dealt with ( if not in most cost effective way)

    Otherwise dunno.

You need a four wheel drive that's not too big. Zippy and nippy. How about a Subaru Impreza? The one with the big wing on the back. Then, if you decide to do a couple of bank jobs as well as the drug dealing, it will be perfect.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

We need a four wheel drive that takes sacks of feed and hay bales etc. preferably that we can stand on roof of for cutting bits off trees, emptying gutters, sitting watching things.

    That's not the answer. :).

If we get a second car that doesn't need to be four by four at all.

Yes it is. When I caught pneumonia last summer, it took a while to get me admitted.
Local GP : "So you have 40C fever, yes...okay...take paracetemol, drink a lot, rest a lot bladibla"
4 days later I went to an NHS walk-in centre as it was Sunday...still high fever, that GP also prescribed the all-curing paracetamol.
Couple of days later I got so fed up we called 999, ambulance man took me to St Peters in Chertsey, and X-ray showed pneumonia plus a partially collapsed lung.

So, were you wheezy by name and by nature at that point? Sorry, couldn't help myself. :o Sounds horrible.

I thought you hated it and were desperate for it to die? I am hoping ours wil catch fire or get crashed into in an expensive but non-injuring manner but it hasn't happened.

I had a truck catch fire once, fortunately just as it had parked up. Absolutely no idea why, you could try throwing a match at it and see what happens.;)

OH and I were chatting about cheap walking holidays in the UK and we have never been really far north an feel we should go up your way one day...just for a week....and I would love to visit the isle of Harris and maybe another Shetland isle.
The train from St Pancras is direct via Manchester I think.

Don't know if we'll do it next year or 2016 but we feel we just want to 'live' a bit as, for 30 yrs, it's all been toil and stress.

Harris is OK, the Uists and Benbcula have never excited me that much. We get up there quite a bit and the drive up is fantastic, I presume therefore the train journey would be enjoyable.

Lir sorry to hear of the impending expense and decision making. I would disagree with Fir on th further repair. there comes a point where the reliability is such a critical variable that biting the bullet on a new vehicle is the only option. in your current health that could be now.

I feel mean as my car will have little use for some time but it is not a bales of anything car so I do not feel able to offer it, which is shaming when I am in receipt of such kindness from others,

Sue, sorry to hear about the heating. really hope it is resolved quickly.

one of my team is on holiday so came over today and brought lunch for us all, then did the ironing and some other chores.

two other ex colleagues came over and we all went and did my shopping then for coffee and cake.

another of my team is coming at the weekend to clean out the bunny rabbits.

I must have the nicest team in the world.
