Aldi had dog shampoo last week. Can't remember price, but think it was less than £1 per bottle. Even if you don't have an Aldi nearby it's not an expensive buy from a local pet shop.

You'll know what dog's reaction is going to be just from lifting her in the bath, if she really hates it, she'll be making it clear she wants to get out before you even turn the shower on. That in turn should be pleasantly warm but not hot. I've had dogs that absolutely hated it, dogs that were indifferent, but only one that liked it.

Dog dog likes it, and big dog used to love the shower in the last house. We send big dog off now, or do her with the hose, which she does not like, and who can blame her for disliking a cold hose in the garden ( obviously we only do this in summer or with her legs in winter)

Kiwi detests bathing and grooming of any description. :(

I meet the descriptors for enhanced mobility on PIP and possibly standard care but until recently, pride, fear of rejection and a myriad of other silly emotions plus financially, the extra cash is not needed for my disability (apart from maybe a swankier wheelchair rather than my ancient second hand one) prevented me applying.

I've now bitten the bullet and put a claim in because I want a blue badge and access to disabled areas at concerts etc and if I have to go for an assessment, it may as well be for PIP. If I don't get it, I don't get it....I'll just have to do the blue badge application instead.

Good luck Sue. I'm glad you are doing this. I think it sounds like you seriously are eligible and would benefit significantly.

I have no idea about my eligibility. When I read the blue badge stuff I don't think I am because most days, as lots of you have seen!, I can easily walk the distance required and more. I just might not be able to do it again later :rotfl:

The idea of reading through all the stuff for anything else just makes me want to curl up and cry tbh. I couldn't focus for long enough probably:rotfl:. And we cope..

My GP was on about applying a while back to get access to other things, but I don't know what those other things would be, or if I'd want them or need them.

On another thread here people are posting about thundershirts. It reads like quackery. Is there anything remotely good about them (ie do they work) as i know my dog is going to get hacked off with the firework season,

My friends own a demonically possessed pomeranian. They bought a thundershirt for him. It doesn't work if he doesn't wear it ;) but when I have seen him wearing it, I think there was an improvement. Not as dramatic as the video, but the dog has some real issues.

Twozerdog is insecure. He'd probably benefit from one.

Across the road here is a long way. Opposite neighbours here started their yearly ritual yesterday of letting off one firework every fifteen minutes, every night for two weeks. Doozerdog was really distressed last night. The worst thing is the infrequency as he will sit and stare until the next one goes off. So four fireworks cause an hour of full distress. I can't work out which house it is.

Looks like we got away with the weather today on the fires front although it will take a couple of days to be sure. Loads of trees down across Sydney though.

We have this great volunteer group here called the SES, the State Emergency Service. They are all volunteers and have access to big vehicles, cutting equipment and all that sort of stuff and will come round to your house for free and help get the tree out that's just come through your roof and then put a tarp up as a temporary protection. An amazing bunch of people really.

You tube isn't working for me again. I just looked again the website, there is a little study don't that I skimmed through, but only heart rate taken and obs. ( pfft)

I'm very 'lucky' all mine are calm and happy with fireworks etc. but drawn curtains, lights on, and a good radio or tv show on at a decent volume ...everything you don't want to appreciate fires works or thunderstorms at home, are worth considering.

Its important not to get flustered your self, this is the biggest 'feed' for anxiety.

DAP diffusers are useful with some dogs. IMO, this is the time of year to bother with them if you are going to, not a time of year when windows and doors are open all the time.

I wouldn't be opposed to trying one of these shirt things at all. For more than the primary reason. If the owner has confidence it will help it can support the dog.

Dog owners expect their dogs to 'Dog Up' a little more in Aus. The only concession to nerves that Mrs Generali's Grandma's dog gets is that she can come in the house if there's a Cat 4/5 cyclone. This is what a category 5 cyclone does:

I know you can see a caravan in the picture but this isn't a caravan park, these are properly built houses (by NT standards anyway:rotfl:).

PS NT = Northern Territory not National Trust BTW.

It's a weird time to be a dog IMO in uk.

Many are pampered but not socialised well at all. The laws have changed in attempt to control dangerous dogs but IMO c0cking up poorly.

Tbh, I probably won't ever get a 'proper' dog again, because I think the circumstances in which we keep them are becoming too odd and I think are unfortunately likely to become odder because of weirdos and hystrionics.

'Dogging up' a little might fine when one is allowed to actually be a dog.

That's because unlike cheap Aussie house constructions it's made of proper tinfoil.;)

I suspect that's because we're standing upwind where the storm came through. That was Cyclone Tracy (aka Hurricane Tracy) which basically destroyed Darwin in the mid-70s. If you ever go to Darwin you will see that it's very new even by Aussie standards. Tracy is why.

She destroyed about 3/4ers of the City, the state capital of the Northern Territory including 80% of the houses.

In relative terms it's probably like Norwich being mostly destroyed in a storm: kinda awe inspiring but at the same it....meh, it's Norwich.
