a multi skilled postie, what do vets know anyway that you cannot garner from getting up early, and studying letterboxes and envelopes.

    .

Good vets will quite frequently refer to behaviourists. And other animal professionals, who often have other jobs......hilariously I know a body worker who is a postie.

On another thread here people are posting about thundershirts. It reads like quackery. Is there anything remotely good about them (ie do they work) as i know my dog is going to get hacked off with the firework season,

What a glorious day. 33C and sunny. The down side is that we've got 50 fires burning across NSW and we're going to have high winds this afternoon. I wouldn't be surprised to see that one or more of those fires turn into real biggies as a result.

How about The Cooking Fairy? You'd get the gay market that way. Plus it has overtones of someone who comes round and stocks up your freezer.

I agree that Dancing Angels sounds sordid. A lap dancing club. I've never understood the point of those. They must be very frustrating.

    I really like that name.
The fairy thing comes over more as someone else has done the work rather than a gay market word.

I wouldn't worry about where you are in a phone directory but getting the dot com + dot au domain would be the most important thing.

Just looked up the cooking fairy and the dot com is taken but everything else is available. cookingfairy.com is listed as a premium domain available @ £1525 on 123 reg.

We are helping out some friends at the mo who are setting up a dog grooming salon. Sadly, she chose her name before she google searched it.

She then wants her website to be on top of google (without paying) except it is never going to come above all the universal studios links to her chosen name.

<deskulk> About six months back, our previously well-behaved cat began to have episodes of vicious growling and hissing at invisible enemies. Vet suggested a soft tissue injury; postie diagnosed demonic possession. A course of painkillers and intensive psychotherapy returned her to something approaching her normal portly serenity, though she still, as mentioned, gets cross on occasion.

I sought the NPT's advice at the time, and several people kindly contributed suggestions, but I think it was during one of your workaholic sessions. </reskulk>

    ah I understand now..thanks for explaining :)

I had no idea I came over as having 'workaholic' sessions...I always saw them as 'busy' patches.;)
You going to stay about and join in more often? Would be nice of you did....

I went to Brighton for the day yesterday. Since discovering I can get there cheaply on Michaels's line it's become my day trip of choice. I love looking at the quirky little shops for things you don't find anywhere else.

15-20 years ago I'd have shopped in the Laines, now I head for the North Laines as they are more edgy. I'd like to know what fc thinks about how it has changed. The lanes now feel more corporate, or expensive jewellery, plus a few established stores that are probably owner occupied. The north Laines, which used to be very hippy seem to have become more indie and trendy.

My favourite shop, one that I have to buy something in, is Berts. I can't help thinking that it could have a trajectory like Cook. It's a fabulous little chain full of wonderful stuff:

The Lanes were already full of corporate a few years before we left.....to be honest, they became more like a museum and a lot of the jewellery businesses had other incomes so the shopfront was just that...a front.
The chain coffee shops and restaurants took the bulk of the £££ which in turn set the level of rent.

I miss wandering about the N Laines...and I really miss Bills. He sold out to The Ivy man and they have one in Soho now I believe.

We haven't been back more than a couple of times since we moved back.....and I don't feel a pang for the place any longer (in a good way though).

Her business will be local, need to make up a local google page for it. It'll get high locally that way - and, after all, nobody's going to travel far for one. No point being number one in New York :)

yup, she'll be fine locally and her website is more for info as she is relying more on passing trade and local advertising in the traditional way I believe but she could have chosen so many names that would have been a bit more unique to her and her business.

The firework season is well under way around here with Divali. Fortunately, the little mongrel from Battersea takes no notice of the fireworks at all. I'm starting to feel quite proud of her.

Doglet's main drawback is that she smells rather doggy. I can't make my mind up whether to throw her in the bath with some baby shampoo or pay the local pet parlour £25 to shampoo her? The pet parlour will also cut her nails and clean her ears and teeth, which I have never done. Any suggestions?

Top Dog would be a great name for a dog grooming salon. It would also be a great name for a film.
