    Hi all.
Download turned into a complete disaster. The quiet camping area was within700m of the runway of East Midlands Airport, so we were kept awake by planes landing and takinging-off several times an hour right through until 5 in the morning with flights the resuming at 6.

The fisrt 2 days were very hot and I got sunburnt legs despite using sunblock.
Friday afternoon the rains came as 70,000 of us were in the arena watching the first few bands playing. Got back to my tent to change only to find it was not as water-proof as Yellowstone claimed.

This, along with 2 nights of no sleep, was enough to send me into a mental meltdown. Ended-up booking into a hotel for the rest of the weekend and not seeing any more bands.

I now realise that I can no longer control my depression with positive thoughts alone, so am trying to get proper medical help.

Oh, and on top of all of this, the soking I got, along with the 2 mile trudge back to my sodden tent, has left me with a stinker of a cold.

My Ef has taken a significant hammering as a result of all of this, so I now need to start trying to rebuild it.

First chance I get, the top box will be up on Shpock or Ebay in an attempt to get back the £50 it cost me. I no longer need it and it takes up too much space in my mum's garage.

Next up, review all my power tools and dispose of the ones I do not need or use.

Also, having actually managed 2 nights in a tent, I can actually atate that I no longer fear sleeping in one and look forward to the next group camp/

It will take me a while as a) I have to prioritise debt and b) the emergency fund will be regularly raided for school fees / car tyres etc etc. But hopefully I will eventually get there!
As per my sig, it currently stands at £150, however I get the school bill this month and it will include my daughter's extra maths tuition and most, if not all, will be eaten up by that.
I am trying to look at the positive that I would not normally have the money put aside.

Sounds like you had a bit of a time of it Patman. At least it has helped you overcome the unexpected enjoyment of camping. Hopefully you will have many camping trips to enjoy in the future.

In years to come, I've no doubt you will look back on this and chuckle about it. I hope your cold gets better soon.

I'm sure with your focus and determination that EF will be back up to the top soon.

    Welcome Trushtush,

Patman will be along with a number for you. Welcome to the thread. Building up the EF and raiding it when needed is what it's all about. The money is then there for that very reason.

    Hi Everyone

Patman99 - My OH worked at Download at the weekend, he was in the same position as you His and a friends tent got flooded out and all of their things were wet through. He ended up travelling to and from Download as we only live around 30-40 minutes away.

He left some of his things there, he said there was no point bringing them back, the area he was in was flooded and some of the things he took was just stuck in water and mud.. Hope you enjoyed the bands though, other than that he enjoyed it.

Not been reporting for a good few weeks but I have kept my EF spreadsheet up to date. After listening to Dave Ramsey and looking how we could adapt what he states in to our lives for savings and stopping direct debits that we really don't need. I realised we could save more a month than I thought, from the last time I posted my EF now stands at £758.60. I now think more of how money is spent... :D

Once next months festival is out the way I hope to save more money every month..:T

    I love this thread..

    Welcome to TrushTush, member #192.

Meezel, I only ended-up seeing 'As Lions' and 'Alien Ant Farm'. I take it your o/h didn't have to tackle the M1 on Sunday evening then?. Someone decided to climb over a bridge between J23 and J22. Took me 4 hours to travel 4 miles back to my hotel having been back to download to collect anythinmg of mine and my sons that wasn't needed.

The Police were still trying to coax the person down on Monday morning and the road closure had shifted from J23 back to J24, so had a bit of a detour back to the M1.

Am now on medication so this should help my depressive state.

Cold took until Thursday to clear-up. Week ended on an up, with the Colchester Scout Districts delivering a superb Gang Show on Thursday and Bill Bailey had me in stitches on Friday.

Also, managed to remember to change the batteries in my mum's smoke detectors today, so can tick that job off.

Quite impressed with how the car handled with a full topbox on at motorway speeds in the tolential rain on the way back from Download on Monday.

Sorry to hear you had such an disappointing trip Patman. I hope the meds help with your depression. Sounds like you had a good rest-of-week after a rotten start.

I've had to completely empty my EF but that's what it is there for so it's all good in the hood. Back to square one and off we go!
