miffy, I started to kondo the dining room where I do my sewing last night. I started the drawers where I keep my bits and bobs and although there isn't a lot to discard (you never know when you might need that piece of ribbon) I was really thinking about storage solutions. DD is a food and drink journo and gets a lot of free booze so I have been re-purposing some of the packaging. My freezer paper, greaseproof and fusible wedding are all now in a box that whisky came in. I tried them in a tube first but they are a better fit in the box. Instead I cut the tube in half and then half lengthwise and it is the perfect fit for my fusible bias bindings. Scissors are in a posh tin that held sweets, it is just high enough and narrow enough and colouring pens and pencils are in a carousel meant for remote controls. I'm finding that her advice to store things vertically really works for me, it's so easy to find things and put them back neatly without having to rummage.

I know she says not to buy storage but I think I'd like some holders for the wall to keep my reels of thread on and also a shelf for the alcove over the desk.

I have been sewing as well - I finished a top using a jelly roll I've had for a couple of years and nearly finished one using a layer cake I've also had a while so I shall spend my next few weeks on the FMQ because I don't like to leave things unfinished too long.
  • I have finished the blocks for the quilt sampler the ladies are going to make. I have ten done by machine and 2 that are hand pieced, dresden plate and tumbling blocks.

I have spent the afternoon demonstrating my sewing machine to one of the ladies, she wants to buy a new machine, liked what she saw.

I have a date with 4 of the ladies next Sunday Morning to take them to the fabric warehouse in Leicester. I will be keeping my purse firmly in my pocket!!

Sounds like everyone has been very busy. I did a workshop on Saturday for a star quilt. It was a bit tricky but getting the hang of it now. 3 blocks done 9 to go. Off to London tomorrow with 3 quilting friends to the Knitting and stitching show at Olympia. One of the friends is exhibiting a Dresden plate quilt so we are off to see that. I don't have your confidence Deleted_User I think I will be spending a bit of cash. On a MSE note we did get bargain fares on the coach and have vouchers for free main courses at Pizza Express so will have a meal before we get back on the coach. It will be a long day but at least we won't be driving:T
    Happy Quilting all:)

I have fallen out with the blue/grey quilt. Say no more.

I'm picking up the pink one in the hope that my desire to throw things out of the window subsides!

Finefoot, I very often go because it's only 30 minutes away, unfortunately I'm away this weekend - have a good time there.
  • I used to go when it was at Chilford, but have not been recently, its a bit out of the way for us, mind you so is Malvern. If I went I would only spend money and I am trying to get enough money together in case we have to move in a hurry. Need at least 1 months rent plus the cost of removal so looking at the best part of £1000.

    Hi all

miffy I did kondo a few bits of fabric that weren't at all joyous, but the rest are now stored upright in a chest of drawers instead of plastic crates, so I can see all the loveliness easily :)
I'm afraid I've been neglecting my quilting for kondoing, but I am going to the K&S at Olympia tomorrow and I'll probably buy fabric :o so I hope to get back to it soon. First project will be to finish the bag I'm making for my cousin which has been neglected too. Then probably a jelly roll race 'cos they're such fun :D

Tried to post earlier but ipad played up. Sorry to hear your quilt is causing you problems aleceiffel hate it when it doesn't go right.snoozer I got some cheap fabric from John Lewis in Bristol, 3 metres for £12, was very happy. Sounds like your sewing room is very organised. Rosyq glad you didn't Kondo too much fabric and hope you enjoyed the K&S show. We went on Thursday, it was a long day for us and a lot of walking but enjoyed it. I did buy some fabric but it was a good price. Have been shortening curtains for my DD's friend and also have to make some cushions for a friend's housewarming gift. Then I can get back to my starry quilt. I also need to start on this Kondoing, have read the book but procrastinating about starting ! Hope you enjoyed your warehouse trip Deleted_User Did you spend any money????:rotfl:

  • In spite of the madness of my life I got to spend a few hours on my own memory quilt on Sunday. The hours just flew and I enjoyed playing with new and old fabrics. I may be a little sad, I know my family don't really understand my fascination for this but apart from back ache I came out of my sewing room feeling calm and ready for the world!

When it goes right its almost like meditation!
