  • Who was the idiot who decided to make 12" finished blocks for the group.......yup me!! I have just spent all afternoon trying to sort out a block, because I always cut half square triangles over size and trim them down to make sure they are accurate, I stood looking at the instructions for the rest of the block and they were not right.....I suddenly realised I was looking at the cutting pattern for a 6" block.....arrgggg thank heavens I had not cut all the fabric or I would not have been amused!! I have sorted it out will be going back upstairs when I have unscrambled my brain to sew it up. Fingers crossed the damn thing comes out to size. Its called 'Old Maid' I am not surprised.............by the time you had sorted it out you would be an old maid!!

This is it, it needs a good press with some steam.
  • Bumping up, before it falls off.
  • Thanks Deleted_User have been rather busy for a few days. Went to my craft club on Wednesday and spent the time finishing off all my quilting threads. Then I discovered I'd missed a line of quilting so had to put that right. I'm not going to bind it just turn the backing and outer border and stitch with a decorative stitch. I looked at your block Deleted_User not seen that one before, I'm glad you got it right in the end and hope your students appreciated your hard work.
Hope everyone is keeping warm. Happy Quilting all :j

  • I think I may have found a group, well its a rolling class on Saturday mornings where you 'can get help from more experienced quilters'. I've sent an email but haven't heard anything back yet. At my craft/sewing group this weekend the lady that runs it suggested she would help me set one up but on reflection I politely declined. She isn't a quilter, finds it dull so I wouldn't ask her to put herself where she would get bored. It would also mean I would feel obliged to be there every time and really am not ready for that yet.

On a positive note I managed to have a few hours quilting yesterday and feel like I've made progress. The more I do the less I like the design but I am loving all the little bits of fabric I'm using so I'm persevering. Hopefully when it's finished it will pull together more.

    Have a good week peeps!
  • Hi everyone.

I'm quite impressed with how quickly things are coming together with my quilt top at the minute, I think the chilly weather has helped! I did an update with one or two pictures on my blog last week should anyone wish to see it, the post is called "Close To Fifty Shades Of Grey", so you don't have to wade through all the other rubbish.

I agree with you Patches, it would be no fun to have someone alongside you who thinks quilting is dull, not really all that helpful and puts more pressure on you.

    Have a good week.

I've just been in to Cambridge and called in at John Lewis, they had huge reductions on some of their 100% cotton fabrics, lovely designs too - one I got was reduced from £18 per metre to £4. The others were £5 per m and were 120 cm wide so I got enough for some quilt backs, I'm beginning to wish I'd got more now.

Hi quilting friends. Patches hope the group works out. Aleceiffellooked at your blog , love the blocks , I spotted quite a few fabrics I have.... Love grey! Snoozer sounds like you got some bargains there. Well done. On the last lap of my Jelly Roll quilt which is good as I'm doing a workshop at my monthly quilting group on Saturday. It is a star block quilt so am looking forward to that.
    Happy Quilting all :)

  • Well I finally got a reply from the lady who ran the group I was interested in and it seems it is no longer there.

She has told me about another though which I think I was aware of as its on a Tuesday evening, the night me and the fella go swimming ... I don't think that one will do. Never mind, I'll just have to plod on by myself for a while, something will turn up and I'm not short of projects!

We had an impromptu trip to York Saturday and as the venue himself wanted to visit was closed for a private function we went to the quilting museum instead. I'm glad I finally got to go and see it but it has left me feeling my work needs a lot of practice!! :)

I managed a couple of hours hand appliqueing a book cover I started ages ago, so although my quilt in no further on I am practicing my technique.

    Take care everyone!
