  • I have just done the first class for the U3A, lots of talk by me, but it went down well, everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and they went home clutching their bag kits.

We had a heavy snow storm just as the class was due to start, only one soul did not make it, so I had 11 ladies all sitting watching me.......I am shattered!!

Need to start now planning the next meeting, finishing the bags and starting pot holders. After that its on to blocks.

Oh dear patches more projects to work on:eek:
I thought I better post as we had been relegated to page 4. I am still quilting my jelly roll quilt, just straight lines but it is looking good. Hope everyone is busy. Happy Quilting all :)

hi, i have made a few relatively simple patchwork quilts and really fancy doing something with a jelly roll. you mentioned straight lines and that sounds like my kind of thing. is there any "pattern"available or is it literally just joining the strips? sorry if i sound a bit confused lol
  • Hi csarina :) Your quilt is so beautiful. I am only new to sewing really and would love to be able to turn out beautiful things like you have all shown here. Well done. I am starting EPP and am enjoying it I just went onto a blog last night and have enjoyed going through my stash and I have a template I got ages ago and am finding it so relaxing. I am in pain after a while on my sewing machine and I can sit and relax doing the EPP and not be sore, so hopefully something nice is happening one day with my efforts :) Margaret

  • Oh I would so love to sign up to a class if there was one not too far from home, but haven't seen anything as yet. I paid only £10 many years ago for 10 weeks and the tutor was a lovely person and we made a skirt/ or blouse and I felt sad when it ended. There were only about 7 in the class and we all got great help from the tutor and she was so good at teaching us how to read a pattern etc. It was so enjoyable and you could bring your own sewing machine with you too. I would dearly love to be a good sewer and make lovely things. It is my promise to myself that this year is when I try hard and improve. Hope you all have a nice weekend and find time to sew as well. Margaret xx

Hi there thegirlsmum there is no pattern but there are at least 3 you tube tutorials on it. Just search for The Missouri Star Quilt Company. Jenny Doan is the tutor and she explains it well. It was great fun and a really speedy way to make a quilt top.
Deleted_User well done on the teaching, hard work isn't it, I taught Infants for over 20 years so am talking from experience. I bet those ladies really enjoyed it and are looking forward to your next class.
Welcome Margaret54 I do machine quilting and EPP and it is nice to do for a change.
Happy Quilting all and if you have snow could you send some here, I am on the border of Wales and England near Chepstow and we have only had a flurry so far. My dog loves snow and so do I, as long as it doesn't stay too long !

Thought I'd bump us as we're slipping down the pages. Still quilting my jelly roll quilt but nearly there. Went to my quilting club last night but ended up making a sewing storage thing as my friend is testing a pattern for a workshop at our Quilter's group. It is a complicated pattern she got from America so very fiddly. Hope everyone is warm, we haven't had any snow apart from a small flurry last Thursday, feeling quite left out :(

  • I am feeling just a little bit envious of those who have a group nearby. All the groups near me seem to be for other crafts and although I do attend one which is interesting it doesn't encourage me to get on with projects already started.

Tomorrow I have booked the day off work to concentrate on decorating a birthday cake for my son in law, nothing too exciting but not my strongest skill so will take my time and try to do it right. There may be some time for a couple more blocks around that - fingers crossed.

I am also thinking of making a cover for my ironing board, OH bought himself a new one (this made three in the house so I gave away my oldest to a couple setting up home), then he took the cover from the main one to put on the new one as this was meant to be our main board - well its rubbish! I hate it! it rocks like its going to collapse but he likes it so he can have it. :) The board I want to use I can feel the metal frame through the current cover so want to give it a bit of padding - do you think its safe to use polyester wadding? I have some remnants of that I can use but not enough cotton. Maybe I should play safe and use an old towel? decisions decisions

    Hi everyone,

I'm still plodding on. There's rarely anything to report because hand stitching everything just takes ages!
