Hi there , glad you are like me and plodding on aleceiffel with quilting it's the only way to go. Patches you can get special insulated wadding, I know Empress Mills sell it but if you don't want to spend out why not put the polyester wadding with the towelling over the top and then a cotton cover. Hope it works, I need to redo mine soon.
    Happy Quilting all :j

  • well my jelly roll project is on the back burner because my 3yo grandson spotted the bunting i had made for his baby brother and now wants some for his room. should be good because he wants the theme to be frozen and thomas, can't wait for the fabric to arrive lol!
  • Oh dear the baby arrived and the play mat is still waiting to be layered
    up and quilted, Help.............

I was a bit cheeky and checked out your blog, she looks absolutely gorgeous! I don't think she will miss the play mat for a little while yet. I rushed to get a baby quilt finished and as far as I can tell its not being used 5 months later as the smaller blankets work better for the moment.

The ironing board is done, not quite as I intended but satisfactory and it didn't cost me anything but time! We changed the mattress protector as the old one had parts that were falling apart. Bought the new on with nectar points and managed to get two intact layers from the old one. One hour later and the two layers have been edged on the sewing machine and put under the original cover. Job done! I think a new cover would have looked prettier but the old one is still serviceable and clean. I'm feeling quite pleased with myself .. still no quilting happening though.

I think I may be a little bit mad, I don't have the time, I have a lot of commitments but I was wondering how hard it would be to set up a quilting group local to me. One that meets on a weekend for those of us who work during the day .... must resist looking into it!
  • Setting up a quilting group sounds like a great thing to try.

I have finally started to construct my quilt top. I don't know how long it's going to take but it feels great to have moved on to a new phase. I started the blocks this time last year so it's been a long haul already.
  • Have spent two days sorting stuff for the quilting group. They will finish the bags at the next lesson and the following one, is using up scraps making a pot holder, so a load of strips and the wadding cut out for 12.

After that the hard work starts, they have to supply their own fabric, I have sorted out 12 blocks, including 2 to be hand pieced, tumbling blocks and dresden plate. They can choose 9 blocks, one of them has to be one of the hand pieced ones. That will take us through to just before Christmas when they can make some Christmas things........

I think eventually the group will morph into a stitch and b**** group meeting on a Thursday afternoon once a month.

I still have not got to the play mat, maybe next week!!
  • I like the sound of your lessons morphing into another kind of group csarina. A little less pressure on you but you can still teach on a less formal level. I have been doing a little bit of online research and there are a couple of groups around me, not close though. I wonder, those of you who do attend how far do you actually travel? I know this will depend on individual circumstances.

I have one about 20 miles away which I think is still running, they are showing on the quilters guild website anyway, but they run on Wednesday evenings and I would have to go straight from work, at that time it could take up to 45 mins to get there and 30 t0 get home. Not generally a problem but after a day at work and on an evening I'm meant to be somewhere else? not good.

The other is just under 35 miles I think and on a weekend. However the route will take an hour each way and tempting though it is that would take two Saturdays a month from my already stretched life.

Does anyone know where I can get an extra day a week from? :)

There may be something that's not advertised on the net - I just don't know where to start looking???

    Keep well everyone! :)

    Hi everyone,

I've been a bit pants about posting (and sewing tbh). I finished the top of the Christmas tree quilt and it's now sandwiched ready for quilting. I usually do that straight away but I started another top with a jellyroll I've had for ages - it's coming together really quickly.

Great thread. I'm a lapsed P&Qer. I haven't done any for ages, but that's mainly because I've been trying to renovate my house, and everything is packed in boxes and bags and keeps getting shifted from room to room. I'm not sure when I last saw my sewing machine! Now I've read this I am craving to do some though! I'm not very expert and tend to do very simple things, just quilted in straight lines as I've only got an ordinary old machine without any bells or whistles.

Hi everyone sounds like you have all been busy. I've not done much sewing lately but need to get back to it. Welcome SandieBhope you can find your sewing machine soon. I like straight line quilting too. The baby looks gorgeous Deleted_User hope you have finished the quilt! Patches41048 I am lucky that I have a local quilting group , my friends and I set it up quite informally and hire the village hall which is very cheap. I also go to a group that is affiliated to the quilter's guild and that is about 35 miles round trip once a month. 4 of us go from here so we take it in turns to drive. What about asking at any local quilt shops if they know of any groups.snoozer thegirlsmumand alec Eiffel sounds like you have been busy. Just helped my DD to make some bunting and she so enjoyed using the machine that she now wants to make cushions:eek:
    Happy Quilting all :)
