Hi all you quilters out there. I thought it would be nice to start a thread to share our projects, works in progress, tips and advice. I know some of you on here are quilters and some would like to start this addictive hobby. You can even show us your stash if you dare:eek:
I have just finished this little quilted bag for a baby who is 1 tomorrow. I used left over scraps from a baby quilt and used a bit of an I*EA fleece for wadding. https://www.flickr.com/photos/miffy257/15104220528/

Great idea for a new thread! The bag is great too. So many baby things are made in pastels (which is fine) but it is lovely to see a bright baby project.
What are you planning to make next? I can safely ask that as no quilter I know has found a way to get over the addiction to cutting up perfectly good material just to sew it back up again.
I'm not sure how to do photos (yet!) but have six quilt tops waiting for quilting. I really must get round to finishing them, rather than leaving them draped over the back of the kitchen chairs!!

Hi,
I quilt as well - at the moment I am making a baby quilt for my husband's nephew and wife. It's driving me mad because it's a combination of half square triangles, squares and rectangles. It wouldn't be so bad but I've chosen to use some very directional fabrics and I've ended up unpicking a lot. It's so easy to put one thing the wrong way round, despite being careful.
What sort of machine do you use? I have a Janome TXL which is very good but recently DH bought me a Janome 8200 (a guilt present because he forgot our 35th anniversary), which has a much bigger space to the right of the needle for quilting.
As well as the baby quilt top, I have another baby quilt pieced for quilting, 100 squares (all different) to piece together, some celtic fabric to make a lap quilt for DS's, GF's parents, the start of a Japanese inspired quilt on the go and some ideas for Christmas decs and cards (help).0 -
I'm another quilter, but I'm a bit sporadic, I do other crafts too, my current WIP is made from my old summer skirts & some shirts. I was getting on well, but have had a busy few days but I'm hoping to do some more sewing this weekend.

Hi ladies nice to see people posting. RPP my next project is another bag with an appliqu! owl for my great niece, I have bought her the Owl Babies book to put in it. I'm also in the middle of a baby quilt and have 2 single bed quilts to make as Christmas presents. Luckily I am retired so do have time to do these things. I did have a sewing room but DD decided to split with BF and come home to reclaim her room. Now I'm stuck in the dining room in a little corner.
SNOOZER I am fortunate like you to have 2 Janome machines a 6260QC and a lighter DXL603 which I use to take to my quilting groups and workshops. I love Janome :j
HESTER I have seen your work in progress on FB and can't wait to see it finished. I love those quilts made with shirts. I must confess I tend to use all new materials (not very MSE)
but I did build up my stash when I was working ready for retirement.
Hope you will all keep posting and hope we get a few more to join us. If anyone can tell us how to post pictures I'd be most grateful. I only seem to be able to do it through Flickr. HAPPY QUILTING£180.00 in 'sistercas'fund

My name is Luxor and I make patchwork quilts. Since taking early retirement, I am probably addicted
.
Due to having RA my hands do not always work as well as I want them to, so I use the sewing machine for the quilting stitches - I can only do a little by hand even on the good days despite my admiration for Amy Emms.
I love to use up fabric and have started making string quilts from my scraps: like these http://www.craftsy.com/blog/2013/10/string-quilt-block-tutorial/
I use new fabrics for cot quilts though.I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.0 -
Not a quilter but I like your bottled walls.0

I have been a quilter for over 20 years. Just now I am working on stuff for a sale at Christmas. I have so much fabric its taking over the house.
I had a Janome 12000 but had to sell it when our last LL decided to demolish the house our apartment was in and sell the land for building. We had only moved in 2 months before they hit uss with it. I did not want to go down the CC route to pay removal costs so the machine had to go. I bought a Janome 5900. It obviously does not do what the other machine did, but I am coping.
Most of the pictures of my quilts are on my external hard drive, I will find them and post a couple.0 -

This quilt was made with some fabrics from my quilting friends in the US which is why it was called my friendship quilt.
I started it in 2009 and it was finished in time for the Scottish Quilt Championships in 2011.

I used to quilt (just small projects, not a full-size bed cover!) but my sewing machine is a bit kranky and could do with being serviced, so it may be a while before I get round to sewing again, unless I sew by hand.
Apropos, does anyone know roughly how much it costs to get a machine serviced? Is it very expensive?

Ring up a local machine shop or dealer and ask. My last machine was £85 but it was a singing and dancing effort, would think it will be around £50 but don't quote me.0
