Just been having a little look-see at your quilts, snoozer.

Wow you lot on here do some beautiful work! I especially like your Celtic Fabric one :T.
  • Snoozer your quilting is beautiful. Like you I don't like the quilting to be overwhelming. Too many people are going down the computerised longarm quilted road. We went to a quilt show recently and there was a gorgeous quilt there but you couldn't really see the fabric for the quilting. My friend and I have bought a frame between us which uses our own machine and we guide the machine so the free motion quilting is all our own work. Unfortunately it is not proving as easy to do as we were told. We need to practise more. Hope everyone can find some time in their day for quilting or sewing today. Happy Quilting :)

I've just spent the day quilting a huge spiral and then cutting and piecing the binding together. I'll machine the binding to the front tomorrow and then it will be hand sewing the back madly to get it finished before I see the new baby on Thursday.

My shoulder is quite sore now!
  • I make quilts too, thanks for starting the thread.

I started in 2012 and have only made two so far, with two more on the go now. I sew mine by hand though, so it's a slow process. Because I'm flip flopping between two at the minute I don't think I'l get one finished this year, but at least I'll be sitting under them working on them when the weather is cold.

    Love seeing all your quilts.
  • Another one here who indulges in a little light quilting, amongst other crafts; I'm a spinner & weaver too, and I sell some of the things I make, though most go for gifts. But I lost my sewing "station" a few months back, when one of the Offspring moved back in with us for a while, complete with fiancee and furniture! However, another one has just wandered off to work in France for 8 months, so I can grab a bit of space back, temporarily at least. I've made a few quilts now, all very simple; I admire art quilts and complicated piecing enormously, but don't have the patience (or the time) for it myself at the moment.

I'm lucky enough to have a (second-hand) Pfaff C1100 Pro, which I love for fancy stitches & "difficult" fabrics, but do most of my sewing on a 1909 Jones treadle, which doesn't even go backwards but is absolutely bombproof & gives me total control. But the treadle top is in a bad state & has started to snag fabric, so I may have to do without it for a while whilst my (cabinet-maker) brother licks it back into shape.

Love seeing all your pictures & am in awe of your skills; it'd be good to have a gallery of them somewhere!

  • I started quilting a couple of years ago and have managed some cushion covers (can't find as photo). My first project was a scrappy quilt, it was all made from charity shop buys of pillow cases, quilts and shirts.

alec Eiffel, I'm filled with admiration for those who quilt by hand, I'd never get one finished. I quite enjoy sewing the binding on by hand and lately I've made a few applique blocks for the Japanese quilt I'm making.
  • Welcome to aleceiffel, thriftwizard hope you will join us on our quilty journey. Thriftwizard I'd love a treadle machine and aleceiffel you are amazing for sewing all by hand. AlwaysAllie your shirt quilt is lovely.
Have to do some housework  before I can sew today.
    Happy Quilting all :)

Thanks I'm trying to get some pictures to work.

I've been locked out of photobucket, so to see some pictures if you look at my homepage there are tabs at the top of my blog with some pictures.
