Do you believe in guardian angels?

while it is true that we should not tar all 4x4 drivers with the same brush, it amazes me the large number of 'earth mothers' who abandon their 4x4 in the middle of the road (or some other dangerous position) just to get little timmy into school on time (especially in london). There is no need to drive such a large vehicle in an urban setting and the majority of idiots that do are simply using it as an extension of their ego/penis*
*delete as applicable...
I drive a 4x4 and often I drive it in an urban setting. I don't have kids though so I don't stop in the middle of the road for little Timmy (plus, I don't think I'd call a child Timmy - I'm quite taken wtih Matthew for a boy and either Charlotte or Stephanie for a girl).
I have a 4x4 because I have a lot of dogs and transporting them around in a car like my wife's VW Eos would be terribly difficult. And although I live quite near a large city, I myself am in a semi-rural area and the roads do get a bit iffy in the winter months when the mud from the embankments gets on to the road. I don't feel an estate car would be too useful so I use a 4x4.
If I really wanted to extend my penis I'd opt for something completely outrageous, like a Maserati Gran Turismo or something but then that's not very convenient for the dogs.
Or I could just buy one of those penis extender things from LoveHoney...0 -
If I drove around in a van with Aliens Exist written on the side people would think I was crazy
Those people would just be silly though. Given the vastness of the universe it is far more ludicrous to believe that this planet is the only one that contains life. Our own galaxy could contain a trillion or more planets. Never mind all the other ones!
Now whether in this vast universe (or even this galaxy), those aliens who have mastered things that we currently believe to be impossible (such as faster than light travel) are wasting their incredible knowledge and resources coming here to rectally probe some pig farmer from Alabama.... well, yeah, I do kinda doubt that.0 -

I don't believe in extraterrestrial aliens. They are merely a hypothesis at the moment without any further evidence.
Same goes for guardian angels0 -

I will accept that we have no firm evidence of extraterrestrial life. However, given the size and age of the universe and the fact we continue to find lifeforms on our own planet that we previously had no knowledge of, it seems mathematically implausible to me that Earth could possibly be the only planet in the entirety of the universe capable of supporting life. Whether that life is advanced or rudimentary single-cell life is another matter.
Kepler has discovered numerous "Earth-like" planets that are candidates for being habitable in an area that accounts for less than 1/400 of the Milky Way.0 -

I expect many will agree with you, but to take it further, which do you think is more likely to exist? The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....0 -

It's called the scientific method
mgdavid - there are estimated probabilities for alien life, there's none for guardian angels. Given that in a world of 7 billion people, you would expect more evidence of the existence of guardian angels. I would put a higher likelihood on alien life existing than guardian angels.0 -

It's called the scientific method
Very few scientists discount probability axioms and logical reasoning in their hypotheses. Consequently, there are few scientists who discount the existence of extraterrestrial life regardless of current empirical evidence.
It has indeed been argued that the existence of Earth in itself is evidence that planets can and do exist within the universe that have the necessary properties to support the formation and advancement of life.
It would also be a question of 'belief' that the Earth were the only such planet, which again, is something we have no empirical evidence of.0 -
I believe in guardian angels. I have one, I know who it is and I know that when they need to let me know something that they will. I may not always listen at first but their persistence pays off. I could give examples of times when they have helped me, and times when their presence has been felt - I have been woken in the night for weeks on end by them trying to steer me away from trouble, to the point where they are an almost physical presence. I have had a young visitor to my home who is 'tuned in' to all things other worldly (aged 11) and they have asked me who the person they keep seeing by my bedroom is, and described them perfectly, even thought the person passed away in the early eighties and I don't speak of them, or own any photographs.
As to why some people have one and others don't, I can't answer that in the same way that no one else can. I'm just grateful for my own.0 -
I'm not discounting them (And I was once a research fellow in a previous career) as I would include them in a hypothesis. I don't like ruling anything out, however uncertain.
I'm pointing out there are no proven hypothesis that would allow you to 'believe' in aliens, any more than anything else. I don't believe there are not aliens either - I'm agnostic until evidence is provided.
Guardian angels, I just have a much harder time believing in. You could point to evidence showing just how many people die in unfortunate ways as evidence against their existence. Did none of those pour souls who were shot out of the sky on a commercial flight not have a guardian angel?0 -

But it isn't a question of whether I am allowed to believe in extraterrestrial life, or not.0
