Do you believe in guardian angels?

I was driving home on sunday afternoon and as i approached a slight corner at the end of a long straight i was confronted with a range rover over taking a lorry. Instead of going head on with the range rover i swerved to the left on to the grass causing me to lose control of the car, spin out and roll. I have no idea how many times the car rolled but it felt like forever. It was like a blur, i dont recall anything other than the noises. When it came to an end i was upside down in my seat, the roof was caved in but i managed to get free from the seat and slide myself out of the little gap that was left from what was the rear passenger side window. I remember looking at the car which was a total wreck wondering how i'm still alive. The lorry driver came over to me, he had called for an ambulance, then went back to his lorry to get his first aid kit to stem the bleeding from my head.
In hospital i was treated for shock, 4 stitches on the top of my head, 6 stitches on my shoulder which i think happened when i slid out the rear window and the rest is just little cuts and a few bruises. My dad came to see me in hospital and after knowing i was ok, he said to me my guardian angel was looking over me. I like to think my guardian angel is my mum who passed away when i was 14 and i've been thinking about it all morning cause the car was a wreck and i walked away with only minor injuries. Maybe i do have a guardian angel, or maybe it is just nice to have the thought of having someone looking over me.

me neither, sorry. (glad you're ok tho)
  • No more than Santa Clause, you either come in to contact with something harder than your body or you don't.
    Physics dictate that.
I do Contracts, all day every day.
  • No, I do believe in seat belts though.

    No I don't, I'd be thanking NCAP.
Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear
  • As the counter argument, surely if you had a guardian angel that is able to change the physical world then they'd have stopped the car from overtaking and thus totally avoid the accident rather than let you be in a terrible car accident even if you did only suffer minor accidents?

    Personally not convinced

Whatever the reason, glad you are all right anyway

Before this happened i would have said i dont believe in it. I consider myself an agnostic athiest but having something like this happen has just made me question whether there could be.

But why? People walk away from accidents every day.

It's just a case of you not hitting anything to cause a fatal injury, modern cars have seatbelts, airbags, side impact bars, reinforced supports etc., to create a safer cabin so that less accidents are fatal. I bet you wouldn't have fared so well if you'd hit the range rover head on.

The problem I have with it is that if you or anyone else has a guardian angel, why doesn't the kid who slips in the swimming baths and fractures his skull, or the man who walks home and is mugged (could the angel not have distracted him for a few minutes thus missing his meeting with his assailants)? There's too many good people who get the sh#t kicked out of them by life for me to think, or even want to believe that a select few have some sort of divine protection.

I can understand that right now you're experiencing a whole host of emotions because in a manner you have confronted your own mortality. It's bound to be a conflicting time and if you take comfort in that then fair enough but just bear in mind that F1 drivers are walking away from horrific crashes several times a season at massively increased speeds. Heck, on that front, the crash that killed Dan Wheldon you would think would have claimed more than one life but unfortunately for him it was simple physics that resulted in his passing.

I didn't fancy going head on with the range rover, that would most likely have been game over hitting head on at 60mph. I've just been going over it in my head all morning and questioning how it was not worse.
