Phones 4U collapses into administration

What would you suggest to mitigate the loss MJ? Cashback deals look like an even bigger risk than previously - I doubt many people would have predicted a big player like P4U disappearing without paying up (there are some other mobile retailers that we are all probably even more wary of now, given recent poor performance paying up!).

1) Unless something drastic changes, lodge a claim with the administrators for all the unpaid cashback
2) Contact the network and see if they can help. They aren't obliged to, but may be sympathetic or allow you to downsize
3) Unless something drastically changes (most unlikely) you can't submit cashback claims; but keep an eye on things just in case there is a salvage job where whoever takes part of the business over agress to pay (so unlikely it's not really an option!).
4) You could sell the phone, terminate the contract IF the particular network wouldn't charge the VAT element and you're really desperate. Personally, I wouldn't and I sold my phones at the start of the contract.0 -
For those like me whose phone is still in the local shop: as I had not heard anything since I rang on 16th I phoned and was transferred to Head Office. They are completing a form and will ring my home phone number within a week re getting my phone back then I will have to take it to the Apple Store ( a train journey). The number to ring is 08448712231 and press #when the options start. Hope this helps. It's been 11 days since I took the phone in and still paying EE and no phone. Hopefully will hear soon.0

The contract for the cashback is/was with P4U, it has nothing to do with your agreement with your mobile network for airtime. So, no, you have to keep paying.0 -
Exactly the same situation here but with Vodafone, a lot of going back and forth and not actually getting anywhere.
My 14 day cooling off period for poor network coverage ends on Thursday and I'm no closer to getting it sorted

I traded in my old phone when I renewed my contract on the 5th Sept and they said it would take 15 days for the money to transfer, it still hasn't gone in yet and it has been nearly 20 days. P4U customer service were not helpful at all and directed me to the PWC website which has no information on trade in's. Obviously I signed a contract with them when they took my phone off me, but will I see this money anytime soon or have they basically just stole my old mobile?New Comper!Wins since May 2014Silver Cufflinks0

I think you're highly unlikely to see any money now, but you may get your phone back. I'd guess you'd have to contact the administrators and see what they advise.0 -
Am I right in thinking that Phones 4 U are in breach of contract and therefore I have grounds for cancelling my account with them so I could in theory cancel my direct debit and sign up with EE directly0

The only contract you might have with P4U is for cashback. You mobile contract is with whichever network you're on. P4U were just agents for that network and your contract is still valid with that network and you have no grounds to stop paying for it.0 -
I don't know if anyone can help and I'm fearing the worst but on the Sunday morning (14/09/14) Phones4U were the only site still saying they could fulfill delivery of the iphone6 Plus on launch day so I ordered and paid for one on my debit card sim free at a cost of £699. That night news broke that the company were going into administration. Since then information has changed repeatedly. At first they said all orders would be honoured, then all orders would be cancelled and refunded, then you had to contact p4u to cancel, which I did and was told the money would be refunded in 6 working days. Nothing has appeared so I called them again this morning and was told I now have to apply to PWC to get my money back but their site basically says you'll have to wait for months and probably will get very little back. Anyone had their money refunded yet? Anyone know of anything I could try? It appears they were aware on the previous Friday that they were likely to go into administration so why the hell did they take my money?0
