  • Hi NOA and team!

I've just read through all 22 pages. Wow, what an amazing couple of months. I've got to say I really admire your mindset.

    Here's my two-penneth worth -
    • Have you considered Mystery Shopping to earn some extra cash?
    • I know you've mentioned ebay, but could you approach it more ruthlessly / strategically? We were shocked by how much we made by selling our crap (I mean treasure, of course) For example, we sold an old Sonic the Hedgehog single duvet cover for £33! People will buy the strangest things
    • Have you registered on any cashback sites yet? Well worth it for things like insurance renewals, phone contracts and Christmas!
    • How much effort is DD putting into getting a job? And I mean any job, not just one that she would like to do? Places like McDonalds, Greggs, Weatherspoons, always have vacancies. She could get one of these to tide her over until something she wants, like Student Ambassador, comes along.

I'm truly sorry about your friend, it is a hard reminder of the fragility of life to lose someone before their time. Keep strong.

    Good luck

Hello PBS (Love your name!) Lovely to see you and so sorry has taken me a few days to reply. Thank you for your kind words and for reading all 22 pages -you certainly have perseverance would have got bored with all my moans and woe is me and meandered off looking for chocolate! Thank you for all your suggestions!
I haven't tried mystery shopping - the ads sound good but I can't tell which are the scams and which are real - after clicking on one and getting a virus I shied away about a year ago. Have you got any good links you could suggest -- maybe I was just unlucky - I see them advertised all the time....and always think it looks like a fun and productive way to get extra money.
I half-heartedly tried selling things but then jobs and work came in and it got abandoned (again)....I really admire everyone here who persists with it. I have so much clutter I would love to get rid of. I need to give it some priority - Thanks for the kick itb:)
Have looked at the Quidco page and signed up but keep forgetting to use:( I only really do Clubcard as our nearest supermarket is T. I have insurance renewals coming up though so again thanks for the kick itb:)

DD has not tried very hard at anything else at uni, but she has an interview on Friday with the exam board I have recently got work with for holiday work. I'm also trying not to nag - have reminded her so many times. But I also haven't put in any extra money into her account yet, and she is now very conscious of how low her balance has got, and hasn't had any alcohol since halloween (to keep costs down) and that's off her own back. If I can hold off putting in any money into her account it might just push her a bit more!

Do you have a diary - please post a link if you do!

    Hi NOA!

Gosh, reading my post back I sound like a proper nag! Soory It's all well intended!

On the mystery shopping front I can personally recommend the following:

    GfK
    Tern
    RetailActive
    AmberArch
    Helion
    MarketForce

You're daughter could sign up for these too. The ad hoc nature means she could accept jobs when she didn't have much uni work on.

I have had two diaries on here. One is meant to be current but I haven't posted in it for about six months. I lost my MSE mojo for a while (we were just swimming along, no debt increase but not 'on the ball' either) But I'm getting back into the habit now.

Have a lovely day - and keep smiling! :D

    Awww NOA.

Don't think the worst of DH. I know you have a huge proven track history, but it is likely to be neither the former or latter options. By this I mean he probably hasn't hit his LBM. Maybe a mini one coming off the back of your own, but probably won't last ...so be ready for the anger when you won't spend half the 'extra' contract money on carp because it is likely that he will want some of it to play with and won't take it very well when you want to take some off the debt, or just keep some aside to cover leaner months.

I am sure it isn't an affair either. Maybe just a good mood springing from several things coming at once, and he knows what you are working towards so is passing on good cheer in a form that he knows you will like :) vouchers are cool! I love Waitrose but it is so shockingly expensive half the time.

Feel free to PM, or write on my diary. Whatever you wish to do and feel more comfortable with. And don't take up time you could be doing on something that benefits you ;)

Glad the universe is listening. Eat more Mars bars ;) then it will know you're thinking about it. :rotfl: xx

Hey Lilt, You are so good at reading between the lines and understanding situations :) So wise for one so young!
Just wanted to say I forgot to add the winky face when I said about the affair. If there is one thing I am sure about in our relationship it is that he/we are faithful to each other. He knows that I would just walk away if that ever happened. You're right about the LBM - he has already started talking about things easing up.
He has got the job! I am really pleased for him BUT its further away so will add an hour on to his day. AM not sure how much better off we will be - have a lot of calculations to do - Company car benefits can be a minefield and will have to be looked at very carefully. Main thing is it has made him a lot happier and I think worked wonders for his self esteem. I hadn't realised his fear that there has not been as much work at his work and he has felt for the past three months that the company have been carrying him. Now why oh why did he not talk about it? Asked him and he said he 's not good at girly chats. I took the opportunity to remind him that it was not a girl chat but a relationship/partnership that's survived for 29 years - what made him think he didn't need to talk about it?
Am hoping this has opened communications again - fingers crossed,
    Ever Hopeful.
    NOA xx

PS hope you and Jelly Both OK - read you pages last night but decrepit old laptop I inherited from DD when she got her shiny new one crashed and lost my post.

    Hey Lilt,
Yes am supposed to be doing something else, but can’t concentrate today. DD coming home and can’t wait to hug her, she skyped me 3 times yesterday (unheard of – usually it’s me calling her!). Think she is really worried about seeing my friend’s daughter on Friday.

The post I lost I now typed in word first - also as its very personal and very long have posted it here rather than hijack your thread-its in relation to the white feathers you kept finding.
Anyways, I decided I post this public and people can make of it what they will but it was my personal miracle and changed me. Probably if anyone I know reads this my anonymity is blown!

My dad was hundreds of miles away and fell ill abroad. No insurance as has lots of complications with his health. Basically multiple organ failure /septicaemia. The hospital revived him and he was in intensive care. Mum didn’t call and let us know until the third day. No-one would explain what had happened and he was on life support/critical/Coma. Mum just kept telling us to pray – but still couldn’t get anyone to tell me what was actually wrong.

Each night I slept in a double bed with the kids, and each night we prayed. I told them he was really ill, and I said to them – lets pray, and tell him how much we love him out loud, and to get better quickly, I explained that their granddad was a long way away and that we had to shout really loud so he could hear us. We luckily have no neighbours – it was the middle of the night! Anyway I kept calling and I kept asking my mum shall I fly over, she kept saying no,it was going to be fine, that we just needed to keep praying. He started to regain consciousness but was still critical. Then after 3 days she answered the question with, it would be too difficult for you with the kids (they were 10 and 5) – basically she was no longer saying ‘don’t come’.
I organised an emergency visa and flew out within a couple of days. As we left our house to drive to the airport, there was the most beautiful sunset – the sky was ablaze with colour, It was my dad’s birthday. I felt in my heart that everything was going to be OK, there couldn’t be something that beautiful on his birthday and it not be a good sign and I said so out loud to my sister and DH.
When I got there, and walked in to see my dad, still on oxygen in intensive care, but awake the first thing he said to me was, “it’s a good thing you came love. I had gone so very far away, it was all white, white everywhere, so bright, so white. But then I heard the children calling “Grandad, we love you”. It made me turn back. You and I love, we obviously still had things to say to each other”.

My hair stood on the back of my neck. I cried. My mum said that that was the first thing he said, when he woke up, that he had heard the children calling him, where were they? And talking afterwards, it was the same day we shouted. I hadn't told anyone - it was just between me and the kids.

Coincidence? Wishful thinking? No Way. A miracle happened. Someone was listening and looking out for us that day. If it hadn’t happened to me I would be very cynical about this, but it did happen to me. So I believe there is more to life than we think we know and it was a big LBM for me.
So when I said I was lucky and that good things happen when I most need them, this was one of the biggest

Lots more practical stuff and horror to this story but end result was that we got my dad back home– The rest is not relevant here.....One day I will write my book!
