    Hi Markymoo

Thanks for your offer of help in searching.

I would ideally like to fly from Manchester on 22nd Dec and return 29th Dec - give a day or two on either side.

Three adults, one child age 11.

    Thanks!

    Sally

Hi Sally... Christmas in New York... you sure you don't want to pay for me too.. ;)

Now, its Christmas, so it will be more expensive.... here are some options

£482 pp - BA - for the dates you want..

now. i tweaked the dates, to fly Fri - Fri and you get my preferred route, which is MAN - PHL - LGA . that works out at £449.35pp
or for £479 you can go with Aer Lingus, and fly to DUB and then to JFK - the beauty about going via DUB is you do all your immigration in DUB, and saves about 40 mins in JFK... (saving 20 mins over PHL)
its all swings and roundabouts, the price is the best though..

i tweaked again, and went thur - thur, and it is £431 via DUB or £435 via PHL..

ok.. babbling over. the best i can find is Sun 23rd - Sun 30th. the flight on the way out is poor, as you fly from MAN - ATL - LGA (i like LaGuardia as an airport to go into, and on the way back you fly JFK - MAN direct.. this is a BARGAIN for this time of year - £ 369.65.. to get direct both ways, you're looking over £450.... i think £369 is a bargaaaain!!!

it is an expensive time of year.... you're not going to get prices like £250 a flight, because it is christmas...

delay your trip til jan... £334....

(all prices expedia.co.uk searching MAN - NYC)

Tell your son to go to "Sam Ash" music shop on 160 West 48th Street......Just off Times square. Huge musical instrument shop, plenty of guitars etc.

markymoo i was wondering why you recommend laguardia airport ? by definition it means that you are going to have an indirect flight from the uk ie changes at hub airports . the only benefit IMHO is that the taxi journey is quicker compared to that from jfk or ewr

    hammy...
as a solo traveller, the cost of the taxi / transport to manhattan is only paid for by myself, rather than being split across a number of people. So, $30 plus tip, in a taxi from LGA to my hotel is much better than $45 plus tolls and tip.. i have to think about my beer money.

Yes, i know it is an indirect flight, but i also find, it is normally cheaper to go indirect than direct for the times of year I fly. Also, i normally fly US Air now, so PHL seems a bit quieter airport than JFK..

so yeah, you're right, the benefit of LGA, is the taxi journey is quicker, and cheaper, and when you're own your own, every penny saved is good.. :)

    Hi Markymoo

That's great, thank you so much for doing that - I'm useless when it comes to doing searches! Or maybe it's just that I don't have the patience! lol

I'd love to go at a different time of year, especially for the Jan sales, but I can't take the kids out of school then, unfortunately it's got to be when they're off.

    Thanks again, Markymoo.
