Parking in Manhattan is a NIGHTMARE and EXPENSIVE. Even if you find somewhere reasonable, you're looking around $10 for an hour. (don't hold me to that, as it's been a good few years since i parked a car in Manhattan

I'd think it would be easier to get NJTransit into manhattan.

Where abouts in NJ are you staying?

Where in NJ are you staying? The Path train goes right into central Manhattan (33rd) from Hoboken, Journal Square and Newark

american cars? hmmm.. most rental companies you'll get a compact car for normal money... you'd have to spend serious money on getting a proper american car or suv..

trains however are every 20 minutes during the day, and take approximately 45 minutes to take you to New York, Penn Station.

    One Way fare is $7
    Off Peak Return is $12.25

I think that will work out cheaper than renting a car, and then parking in manhattan!

Tell your son to go to "Sam Ash" music shop on 160 West 48th Street......Just off Times square. Huge musical instrument shop, plenty of guitars etc.

[Excellent food, great atmosphere & the toilets.......you have to go just to see the loos! (communal male/female clear glass cubicles, which frost over as you lock the door).
 Really If I wasn't there with teenagers I'd go to see for myself.

Can anyone recommend a guitar and accessories shop? My son said the bigger the better if poss, or maybe an area he should head for with a few about.
Also is there any live band restuarants that we could go to that will allow teenagers? his into Rock/blues.
    thanks

Try BB Kings Bar and Grill, it is an all ages venue that always has live bands on ranging from Toots and the Maytals (ska reggae) and Finntroll (Folk Metal) to Billy Ocean and Isaac Hayes

Terra Blues is on Bleeker Street and is usually 21+ unless acompanied by a parent. They have live acts every night
